Awesome! The Vancouver Giants don't want to let Don Hay get away.
Giants owner Ron Toigo announced Thursday that he had torn up the final two years of the contract Hay signed in 2004 and had given his Memorial Cup winning bench boss a new five-year deal.
Terms were not announced, but Toigo did say Hay received a raise. Toigo also said he believes Hay is the highest-paid coach in the Western Hockey League. Published reports three years ago had Hay making "about $120,000" a season.

I find it interesting in pro sports that the instant you sign your contract all the focus and attention is on what the next one will look like.
Hay is a purrfect example. He still has two years left and he's already got another deal.
I know it makes sense to extend the deal before it is up to avoid any disruption and all, but it's fascinating how planning for tomorrow isn't planning enough ahead.

Apparently Hay had an opportunity to return to the NHL but not as a head coach.
