Awful! Will they win again with no running game, awful special teams and god knows what at QB.

I took in the Wed practice and neither QB looked like they were game ready even allowing for the reality that some aren't great practice players. O'Connor wasn't taking reps either but when throwing passes with the QBs it looked like he was tossing purely with his upper body and not testing the leg. If you haven't a run game and you don't have a Nathan Rourke at QB it's not a great picture.
I suspect the Lions are in tough for the balance of this season as I can't see Vernon Adams even at the top of his game being successful in this offence.

One positive from the game was the play of Jordan Williams, who was listed on the depth chart as backup to Bo Lokombo at weakside linebacker. Instead Williams started and was flying around the field for most of the game, leading all players with a game-high 11 tackles. Ben Hladik had 6 and Lokombo had 3 in limited duty.

Another positive from tonight's debacle is Terry Williams. Looks to have quick feet. Runs north and south instead of tryin to deke everyone.

The incomplete pass to Hatcher at the goalline in the 3rd quarter summed up the game and so did Hatcher's immediate frustration. He initially looks for the pass and Pimpkin doesn't throw it. Hatcher then turns up field to block for him and then he throws it.
That's an easy TD pass with Rourke at QB and Pimpkin has watched his quick decisions/releases game after game, practice after practice yet he just couldn't pull the trigger when he should have.

Yes, to me as well that play summed up the entire awful night. A spot in the Western playoffs is looking really doubtful right now - especially with two games each against the Stamps and Bombers remaining.SammyGreene wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 8:46 pmThe incomplete pass to Hatcher at the goalline in the 3rd quarter summed up the game and so did Hatcher's immediate frustration. Hopefully Vernon Adams can show some of what made him a highly rated prospect and starting qb. It's obvious we will go nowhere with Pipkin and O'Connor.
It's hard to judge other elements of the team when the qb is incompetent. The run game is shut down because the qb can't make passes. Receivers look bad because balls are misplaced or thrown at wrong times. The oline gives up sacks because the qb doesnt get rid of the ball. The defense gets gassed and misses tackles. Special teams have bad field position all game.

You make some good points, but I think the sample size on O'Connor is far too small to say he will never be a contributing quarterback. He has not had much time on the field - even in the short spurt of Rourke glory days, O'Connor should have had more game time late in wins to both give him reps and protect the No. 1. Then in his first start he led a decent first drive and then was driven from the game after just a quarter with an injury. There must have been a reason he was No. 2 on the depth chart, so let's see what he can do when healthier.maxlion wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:15 pmHopefully Vernon Adams can show some of what made him a highly rated prospect and starting qb. Otherwise, yes, having someone like Rourke is like icing an elite goaltender in hockey - he can paper over a lot of team weaknesses. Even during all the wins it was obvious the running game wasn't nearly good enough for the late season and playoffs - and the kick return and kick coverage teams are screamingly third rate. Geez, remember the days when Lucky was a threat to score on every kick return? What happened to that kind of dynamic special teams play?
Instead, all those weaknesses are very exposed - and we no longer have a kick-butt passing game to make up for them.
Sigh.

Exactly! You can't write a QB off after one quarter. I've seen bad QBs be given start after start, yet people think O'Connor can't play based on one quarter.Walt67 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:40 pmYou make some good points, but I think the sample size on O'Connor is far too small to say he will never be a contributing quarterback.
