One of the finest running backs ever to
play in Canada, the Detroit native was a member of the Rose
Bowl winning 1959 Iowa team. The unbelievable Willie "Will o the
Wisp" Fleming set a pro football rushing record which stands to
this day. In 1963 he carried the ball 127 times for 1,234 yards
for an incredible 9.7 yard per carry average. He gained more than 1,000
yards seven straight seasons (rushing
and receiving). In 1960 he scored 18 touchdowns for 109 points. He
helped the Lions to the Grey Cup
twice in 1963 and 1964 and retired in 1967 as one of the legends
of the CFL.
