Will Hervey Trade His 1st Round Pick

It is quite possible BC Lions may have the 1st round pick in next years draft for the 1st time in a long, long time.

But if Lions continue to lose and Hervey starts to feel he needs to save his job, for he is on an expiring contract will he use that chip and trade it away to get an established player.

I personally think it is possible, but it would be a mistake.

Tough to vote on this, but I said Yes, for think there is a more than a 50% he will.

Not going to happen. BC's playoff goose may not be completely cooked but it's already cooked past rare and nearing medium rare. They've already lost the season series with the Riders and Esks and trail the other 2 0-1. They'd need to beat the Bombers by 11 in Winnipeg and Calgary by 4. Realistically they'd need to go on a minimum 9-2 or 10-1 run and hope one of the other 4 in the West have a total collapse. BC only has 4 games left vs the West. While they'd benefit from having 7 of 11 versus the East they really would need to benefit from some 4 pointers against West opponents. With only 1 game each versus those 4 they'd have to rely on 3 of those 4 laying steady beatdowns one the 4th. They all seem too even to expect anything other than trading off wins amongst each other. And of course they all have 3 to 5 games left against the East too.

Bottom line is trading away a pick that is looking like it will be #1 or #2 overall is not going to bring anything back that would suddenly propel this team towards the sort of record they would need to get a shot at 4th place and a possible crossover. This team is nowhere close to the 2011 edition that had the improbable run. From what I remember of that team there was a lot more talent and it was mostly plagued by inconsistent play. It would be like one game a couple of plays on offence would let them down. Next game it might be the defence. Game after that special teams. This team has been breaking down in all areas every game. I'm not seeing a team being willing to give up an all-star calibre RT, all-star calibre pass rusher, all-star receiver and all-star linebacker all for one 1st round pick because that is what they'd need to move the needle on this season.

If BC was to deal that 1st rounder they'd be far better off to save it until the offseason because they'd stand far greater chance of getting some value for it.

I sure hope Hervey don't mortgage the future for a quick fix. Having said that, desperation makes desperate people do stupid things.

Maybe. It depends on what Edmonton offers in return. 3 guys from the PR should do it.

You have to hang on to a potential #1 overall, hopefully we get a new GM and we get some Canadian talent worth remembering

Agree, Lions should not a high pick for help making a cross-over playoff spot is futile. Even if Lions somehow made playoffs, it would likely result in the usual annual embarrassment . Prep for next year.
