This is a deep, talented, veteran team. Not many concerns, but we need a more dynamic running attack. We're okay on misdirection, but we've struggled for the 2nd straight game going up the middle.
Hmmm. Yurichuk vs Bighill at MLB. Quite the battle. To me, Bighill seems to have better linebacking instincts.

I would have to guess that Henley wins the D Line contest, almost by default.
K Johnson and N Moore both looking good.
Lulay on target, as is Reilly.
Simon and Bruce ready to start the year.
Jason Arakgi with 4 tackles seems to have resurrected his career.
Gore is dangerous on those reverse plays.
I don't expect us to have a vigorous running game. But as long as we get 75 yards or so per game, we should be OK. Let's say 10 runs for Harris, 5 for Brown, and 5 scrambles for the QB.

First half highlights included an excellent opening drive by our Leos, capped off by a short touchdown pass to Geroy Simon, who slid into an open hole in the zone. Our offence bogged down after that until very late in the first half. Shawn Gore looked excellent again in his second season as a starter. Our running game was vanilla and we stuggled to open holes. Harris had 5 carries for 13 yards. I was surprised to see Norman with the starting unit at guard. With time running out in the first half Lulay hit a wide open Kierrie Johnson on a bomb and Johnson raced to the end zone untouched. Johnson also looked sharp in the first half. Lulay looked good most of the time but also missed a couple of throws.
Defensively, Rajon Henly got good pressure on our first defensive series and also had a sack in the first half but also dogged it a little on a Jyles scamper. Shell looked good on a blitz and Yarichuk was solid in the middle, outside of one goal line play. We shut down Jyles effectively...Edmonton only got its first first down on the last play of the first quarter... but our defense struggled more against Kerry Joseph, due to his ability to both run and pass.
Second half highlights included Nick Moore, Earnest Jackson, and Courtenay Taylor all showing their talents. Any one of the three could be a starter elsewhere. Moore is silky smooth, Earnest Jackson has speed and size and good hands, and Courtney Taylor can make the tough catch against strong contact. Wish we could keep all three.
Reilly is such a poised quarterback for the little pro action he has had to date. Still think Arland Bruce can make the toughest catches in traffic of any Leo receiver Ive seen since Pat Claridge. I still have no clue why the Leos like Iannuzzi over Paris Jackson..it confounds me.
Our run game was brutal and awful but at least I give Chap credit for sticking with it.
Defensively we looked very good against the pass and got good pressure on the quarterback. We were a little weak against the run at times but we looked like a veteran group. Rajon Henley had the best game in terms of the battle for the last defensive line spot but training camp performance will also be a factor in the Leos coaching staff decisions for the defensive line spots. Yarichuk was solid and Bighill made a couple of excellent plays.
Bell looked very good in the defensive backfield and Reddick showed why he is a superb nickel back.

Weird, weird, weird night for me. Radio was how I was introduced to the Lions. JP McConnell (IIRC) and Larshied. Loved the game and could almost picture it happening.
Now I'm spoiled. As a season ticket holder and obvious CFL fan regardless of whose playing, TV or the stadium is the way to go for me now. NOT KNOCKING the radio crew whatsoever. I just like seeing the show and therefore radio isn't enough, IMO. That being said, when the radio feed is in jive with the tv signal, I love the perspective the Lions radio crew brings.
Lions sounded good but as the radio crew kept coming back to, this is the preseason. The Lions seemed awesome in the preseason last year too, IIRC. I am ( ) sure the stumble out of the gate we've endured the past few seasons will not occur again this year. It will be nice to see all the CFL teams with what they REALLY plan on doing soon.

With our vigorous passing game, I really don't expect us to also have a vigorous running game. We did have 98 yards on the ground tonight.
This must sound like heresy from me, as I was a huge proponent of the power running game we had with Joe Smith. But I think those days are over.
If we do enough to keep the D honest, IMO we will be OK. Enough to me means 10 carries for Harris, 5 for Brown, a couple of end arounds, 5 QB scrambles. 75 yards is adequate. We don't really have an inside power runner. Brown is probably our best inside runner. Harris will keep the D honest, and he will pick up some yards inside, but he is more of an outside runner, and he is extremely dangerous and effective receiving out of the backfield.
............
Gotta keep Glenn Love. Josh Bell also.
...........
Glad to see Arakgi jump start his career. Makes you shake your head when you hear they tried to convert him to safety or receiver.

Didn't catch much of the game, for some reason I thought it was Wednesday today(I never miss LIons games).
From what I gathered it was a solid pass offense, awesome defence as usual and an acceptable but forgettable
run offence. I would love to see our run game become more of a factor but I feel that the combination of preseason
and beaten up offensive line may have something to do with that.
Heres to the season opener vs the Bombers!

Tough questions ...
How can we manage to keep Nick Moore, Courtney Taylor and Ernest Jackson?
How can we keep Parker, Bell and Lawson? We can't. Parker may be on the bubble. Bell I expect to stay. It would be nice if we could keep Lawson too.
I would have to say the Great D Line Survival Contest has been a bit of a bust. No standouts. I suppose Henley wins by default.
How can we keep Glenn Love and Rodney Paulk? I expect us to keep Love.
Ossai or Randolph to the PR?
Do we still bring in Casey Therriault as a 4th QB? Kind of doubt it, since IMO little DeMarco has shown so well.

ii) Ossai did a good job against the Riders
iii) No urgency in bringing in Therriault but I expect him to show up for a look see sometime this season.
I can't see Parker on the bubble WCJ.....if Henley makes it on the roster it will make me happy..,..although I expected the quality of the candidates for rush end to be better than training camp offered by all accounts.WestCoastJoe wrote:Tough questions ...
