Just stumbled upon an interesting bit of CFL trivia in the wikipedia article of former Roughrider QB Frank Tripucka:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Tripucka

Apparently for the last two games of the 1959 season, the Roughriders were unable or perhaps — being 1-13 and well out of the playoff picture — unwilling to field the required minimum number of non-imports and therefore forfeited (but still fielded a team and played in) these final two games.

So my question is, does this represent the most recent forfeiture of a CFL game, or ha(s/ve) there been (an)other(s)?

As a further note of trivia, league archives at cfl.ca indicate that these two games were played in close proximity, as was not unusual in that era: just two days apart on Sat Oct 24 (at home vs Edm, they lost 20-19 anyway) and Mon Oct 26 (at Wpg, where they won 37-30 but it went into the standings as an L, and they finished at 1-15).
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
