That other thread about Favourite Bands got me thinking about something related to that so I thought I'd create this new thread for it. Throughout the 1980's and early 1990's, music videos were very popular. They are still popular, but in a different form in that with web sites like YouTube, it is possible to perhaps obtain any music video.
In the 1980's, three popular shows about music videos were:
1. Video Hits, which aired from 1984 to 1993 and was hosted by Samantha Taylor, Bryan Elliott, and then Dan Gallagher.
2. Good Rockin' Tonite, hosted by Terry David Mulligan and then Stu Jeffries.
3. MTV Top 20 Countdown
So what are your favourite and/or most memorable music videos that you have seen? I request that you search YouTube and find a music video of it and post it on this thread as that shouldn't be too difficult.
I'll start off with my list.
Genesis - Land of Confusion

The Cars had a pretty innovative video (by 1984 standards) for You Might Think. And ZZ Top were around for over a decade by the time they broke it big with those videos from Elminator. "...every girl's crazy 'bout a Sharp Dressed Man!"

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Seems like an ominous look into the future of videos and the death of true singer/songwriters?? Although no one really seemed to go down hill because of video??
Thank you for everything you did for OUR Lions Mr.Ackles, we will never forget you...RIP
I've heard Joe Jackson cited as an example of a viable artist who suffered commercially for not adapting (by choice or not) to the MTV era.lion24 wrote:Seems like an ominous look into the future of videos and the death of true singer/songwriters?? Noticeably absent from this list, IMHO, are Genesis, lots more Queen, and believe it or not, Huey Lewis & The News ("Stuck With You" was a fabulous music-video-monster-movie spoof).
