Going back a couple years, one woman wrote into one of the local papers complaining that the Felions were "not suitable for a football game"

I'm not saying that they belong in No 5, but the focus seems to have gone away from sex appeal more towards a substantive role in revving up the crowd.

My point was that if Miss Grey Cup and the Cheer Extravaganza are exploiting women, wouldn't the same apply to exotic dancers?

Well, the obvious difference is that the latter may feature nudity. And another difference is that it's clear exotic dancing is an adults only event, whereas most if not all events at a Grey Cup festival are supposed to be family friendly.

Isn't that also exploitation of people?
Are you saying the only differenc between the Felions and those dancing at No5 is that you don't get song number 3 and the shower?

The Cheer Extravaganza is a showcase of the talents of the cheerleaders (male and female) of the CFL. It is in NO WAY a competition. Each team showcases the hardwork that they have worked on throughout the whole of their season for all of the fans across the nation to see. It does not feature one dancer/cheerleader over another or one team over another. All are given the same amount of time to showcase their talent and skills.

Okay, so it's the competition aspect of the Miss Grey Cup contest that the organizers did not like and it's why they canceled it. But I'm sure those watching the cheer extravaganza will form their own opinions on which group put on the best showcase, so there's still some unofficial competition there.

I suppose it was either that, or force the Junior Felions to dress like the Felions - something which I'm sure their parents would find highly inappropriate.

Actually, they did something similar last year. As soon as it got cold, then went to a jacket. Last year it was black.

While we're on the topic of the jackets, a question for Christa: Are they the same jackets you had at Fanfest?

Note to self: posting while drunk makes you sound like 120db

Hi Christa,

Has the squad been rehearsing for the 2007 Cheerleader Extravaganza event during Grey Cup week? What's the routine like?

Unlike last year's event which was a ticketed, indoor one, this year's event will be free and outdoors.

I'm sure you will be able to find it on YouTube soon enough.

Unless the event was cancelled. Several outdoor events were cancelled on Thursday because it was freezing in Toronto, so I don't know if this outdoor event on Saturday was also cancelled.
