actually, one possible theory. Many who are\were still loyal to him may have been continueing the fight in hope that one day he would be free to lead them again. This finality might just deflate some of them and convince some of them to put their guns down, so to speak. It might just make it easier for Iraqies as a whole to move ahead, even though there will always be those who have nothing better to do that kill.how does killing him change Iraq today

It may help curb the insurgency but it's speculation on my part. Only time will tell what will happen.
Charming! And have you been following the news from Iraq at allOrangeShoes99 wrote:
Killing Saddam has nothing to do with changing Iraq. It has to do with ridding this planet of an evil man whou caused mass suffering amongst his own people, as well as others. The families of those he killed and tortured can rest a little easier.
Keeping him alive serves little purpose. Good riddance.
during the last three years? His execution has nothing to do with
the reason that you state above. Hussain was a hero to his own people
(sunni muslums), who directed his acts of repression against Shiate muslums and kurds within Iraq. His execution was an act of revenge
orchestrated by Iraqi shiates who now have the upper hand in the country thanks to the Americans. And as for shiates and kurds resting easier now that Hussain is dead, are you even aware of the sectarian bloodbath that has been taking place in Iraq now that there is no strong
central government? No doubt Hussain was a ruthless guy who came down hard on those who he perceived to be enemies of his sect. And certainly you have the right to hate whoever you want to , and to take
joy in their deaths. But please do a little bit of research before posting your opinions on this matter.

And life under Saddam's Strong Central Government was Utopia, right? Hundreds of Thousands dead in the Iran/Iraq War, ethnic cleansing of the Kurds and political disendants shot and tortured? Charming!
So please, do a little research before posting on this matter.
Keepin' it real
What does it say, that even in death, a middle east dictator can still cause dessention on a North American sports site?
makes me wonder,
are there any iraqi's posting here?
are there any people native to that part of the world posting here?
are there any people who have lived in that part of the world posting here?
are there any people who have ever been to that part of the world posting here?

Yeah, I would say that gassing his own people, ordering mass executions, having prisons for women and children, and systematically starving and repressing his own people while living in a palace with golden toilets might qualify as "coming down hard".TheZeppo wrote:[No doubt Hussain was a ruthless guy who came down hard on those who he perceived to be enemies of his sect.

First of all I never said half the stuff you just said I did. Last time I checked people who reside in your country are still citizens. No matter what their beliefs. Are we to suggest that because of different releigions and ideas, and cultural diversities in Canada that it's ok to torture and kill those that disagree with you, like Saddam did?TheZeppo wrote:Charming! Those that carry on with similar acts now should be treated no differently.
He was punished for his actions, not his beliefs. He committed brutal acts against the human race because they didn't fall in line with his beliefs.
There was another guy like that in history as well, his name was Adolf Hitler.
Go ahead and defend them, it's a free country.

Good point. I thought about this arguement earlier, if Hitler hadn't blown his head off and had faced the death penalty as well...There was another guy like that in history as well, his name was Adolf Hitler.
"How has Hitler's death made Germany a better place? Now Germany is split between east and west with the Russians ruling the East., blah, blah, blah."
Sometimes the death penalty is a form of revenge, sometimes it is unjust, sometimes it may be cruel... and then there are times when a murderous dictator gets hung, and humankind celebrates.

sometimes this may be required to make sure no one can pull a napolean.and then there are times when a murderous dictator gets hung, and humankind celebrates.
sometimes this may be required because many potential bad guys do fear hanging.
however, it should never be celebrated.

Face it life in the mideast doesn't have as high a value that our Westernized culture places on it. It is one reason that terrorism succeeds to the degree that it does. Substituting ones life for immortality within their religion and a huge change in lifestyle for the perpetrators immediate family. It is also why Sadam had to be eliminated, as an eye for an eye is much more literally viewed.KnowItAll wrote:sometimes this may be required to make sure no one can pull a napolean.and then there are times when a murderous dictator gets hung, and humankind celebrates.

Yeah but many in the middle east believe the west has taken advantage of it, for example oil. A country like Iraq should be swimming in money.Rammer wrote:Face it life in the mideast doesn't have as high a value that our Westernized culture places on it. Certain families are swimming in it, but that wealth isn't spread around. While the US has painted a large target on itself, playing the political/oil game about as well as possible, the entire Mideast has to look at themselves first and the US secondly, IMHO.BEEECEEE wrote:Yeah but many in the middle east believe the west has taken advantage of it, for example oil. The people who taunted and videotaped Hussein during his execution are now in trouble.

I find it hard to believe that nobody noticed that his hanging wasn't being videotaped. It wasn't as if there were a big crowd at the hanging.
