Joe Biden will be making his State of the Union speech tonight. In a typical speech, the President's party (in this case Democratic) will clap and applaud after every statement, while the opposition (Republican) usually will not.
The two people seated behind the President are the Vice President and the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Obviously, the Vice President will always be in the same party pas the President, while usually but not always the Speaker of the House is in the same party as well.
Last year, there was the exception in that the then-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was Republican and all television stations would get a clear look at him to see to what extent would he applaud. And surprisingly, he did clap on a few occasions. It would be interesting to see this year in which the current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson who is also Republican, will react. I wonder how many times he will clap and applaud.

The bigger issue is whether the insane members of the MAGA party will do their usual cat calling.
My favourite State of the Union was Trump's when Nancy Pelosi ripped up her copy of his lies and rants on the podium.
While it's a sad state of affairs in the USA as their country's structure makes it ungovernable unless there's cooperation. Now that the GOP discovered that all they have to do is nothing for four years, it's exposed their system as it's crafted.
We have to be grateful for the Parliamentary system we have.
If you want to know why many of us oppose proportional representation look at Israel. Their PM is a horrible person but to form a government he's in bed with the most right wing extremists in Israel who support what he is doing to innocent Palestinians with no regard for lives of kids and non-combatants nor his hostages.

Judging from the last few days, I would suggest that the GOP is now regretting what they were pushing for. Ol'Joe is gone and with him has been the GOP's main line of attack. Now the old duffer in the races is DJT. They may try to attack KH via her record as a prosecutor. I personally would love to see that. If they go after her that way, then they can go after Trumps history and say oh yeah, well here's your guy. There is a saying, "Be careful what you ask for". They are in for it now and depending on who gets the nomination, the big issue would be who gets to be VP. Would like to see Pete Budachek (sp?). They get that combination. They get leg up on just about every group that the REPUBs. and their Christian backers like to alienate. Women, People of Colour, LBQT.... Man I hope the momentum keeps going. I don't have a beef with being conservative but what Trump and Friends are pushing isn't really that IMO. It is a brand of far right extremism. May he lose badly in Nov. and hopefully we see the back of him.

Well it remains to be seen if Trump will even agree to another debate. The game has changed and I would be surprised if the drivers of his campaign will take the chance. It is refreshing to see that side twisting in the the wind a bit. I think it was time for Biden to go and to his credit, I think he finally saw the light. One thing you can say is that DJT would never decide to step down for the good of party or even his country. He has been a blight on the world and I put him in the same league as others who have been similar. Putin, Netanyahu, Kim Jong Un to name a few. The day that he is no longer walking the halls of power, the better off we will be.

Or the fool just continued being what he always has been. Kamala did okay. I don't think that she was brilliant but she did enough to get him to revert to form and hopefully that is enough to get people who haven't already chosen to lean her way to do so. If they do go for Trump down there, it won't be good for Canada or the rest of the world. Imagine the challenges of sharing the longest natural border in the world with a country that is led by a capricious, easily manipulated fool who will institute policies based on a very skewed view of reality. It would be a disaster for us if the US ever decided to be a China or a Russia.
