The Argos finally catch a break on the first drive of the third quarter when a bobbled Winnipeg interception at the goal line pops in the air and gets trapped between the knees of Brandon Banks in the end zone for an Argo TD. 17-10
Winnipeg.

Some things are too strange to be true. The Argos appeared to be driving for the tying touchdown when Banks fumbled inside the 5-yard line and the Bombers drove for a field goal. 20-10 Winnipeg on the first play of the fourth quarter. 17 of Winnipeg’s points have come off turnovers.

Unreal!! Two chip shot misses at BMO going both ways for the Argos in both home games. Would have taken some guts but going for 2 and putting the ball in the hands of Andrew Harris from the 3 yardline is what I was thinking before the kick. He was running with a chip on his shoulder all night

Thursday
Calgary (3-0) at Edmonton (1-3) 6 p.m.
Friday
Ottawa (0-3) at Saskatchewan (3-1) 6:30 p.m.
Saturday
Winnipeg (4-0) at B.C. (3-0) 4 p.m.
The big one at B.C. Place on Saturday of course but already chapter 2 of the Battle of Alberta with 2 more games coming Sept. 5 and Sept. 10. Hardly an easy schedule to start the season for the RedBlacks but one of these games they need to turn those close losses into a win. Fortunately, that's all it will take to get back in the race for first place in the East.
Bombers are coming in here on a very quick turnaround while the Lions are about to head into another bye week (really?).

Thursday
Edmonton (1-4) at Montreal (1-3) 4:30 p.m.
Friday
Calgary (4-0) at Winnipeg (5-0) 5:30 p.m.
Saturday
Saskatchewan (4-1) vs Toronto (1-2) 11 am (TD Atlantic)
Ottawa (0-4) at Hamilton (0-4) 2 p.m.
I know it balances out in the end but the fact some teams are on (BC) or even had their 2nd (Toronto) bye week before others have their 1st is just a bad look for the league.
By Sept. 6, BC will have played 6 of their 9 home games and have had all 3 of their byes, setting up what is going to be a very challenging last couple of months of the regular season.
A marquee match-up on Friday Night Football. Let's see if the Stampeders can match-up better with the Bombers than the Lions did.
And unfortunately with a huge disparity in the records among the 9 teams already there are going to be some ugly match-ups with 2 of the 4 games this week. At least 2 teams' records will look a little better by the end of the weekend.

A massive choke job by Montreal at home on Thursday allowed Edmonton to overcome a 19-point second-half deficit and defeat the Als 32-31 to move within 2 points of the fourth place Lions in the ultra-competitive West Division. Danny Maciocia should fire himself as head coach after the undisciplined Als turned the ball over 3 times to set up 16 Edmonton points and took a whopping 13 penalties for 193 yards. Montreal DB Will Sutton set up 3 Edmonton touchdowns, including the game winner in the fourth quarter, with lazy pass interference penalties. East Division teams are now a combined 2-14. At least the crossover is available for the fourth place team in the West.

It would appear that Maciocia axing Jones and Miles did nothing to improve player discipline as Als kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties.

The East has become a complete disaster. It's July 15 and 4 of the 9 teams in the league have become an afterthought. Talk about a buzz kill trying to hype up those all-Eastern match-ups to casual TV viewers.
Oh well, I guess it adds a little intrigue to the Elks return visit here on Aug. 6 and it's somewhat good news that we see one less Eastern team (Montreal) at BC Place this season.

This week’s battle of the unbeatens is living up to the hype. Stamps more than holding their own with a couple of crucial penalties including a lame contacting the kicker call being the difference. But a great game.

Wow, what a game. Winnipeg remains the only undefeated team in the CFL with a 26-19 win. Calgary almost tied it with 49 seconds but Kamil Jorden fumbled in the end zone and the ball was intercepted by a Winnipeg defender. The two teams will meet again in 2 weeks.
