Big news coming out of the NFL today. The Tennessee Titans have 8 players who have tested positive for Covid 19. Both they and the Minnesota Vikings (played last Sunday) have suspended all football operations until further notice. The Vikings don't report any cases at this time. Ouch!

Enjoyed this little read/update on former Lion Ty Long (now with the Chargers of course). One of the leaders-- a team captains now, with some important thoughts/actions on social issues. Good for him. https://3downnation.com/2020/10/02/form ... -chargers/

Another postponement due to COVID positive tests. It's funny how MLB seems to have resolved their issues, as they are about to head into their neutral sites for the Divisional playoffs. I wonder how long before the NFL decides to go with less travel, fewer venues.

Decent win by the Seahawks in Miami with the defence forcing two interceptions leading to TD's, and notwithstanding the late TD in garbage time, limiting the Dolphins offence to just 5 field goals.

Enjoyed watching former Stamp Alex Singleton get a quick-six -- his long hair flying, and him all smiles (as per usual) in the Eagles upset win over the 49ers.

Another win for the Seahawks, making this their first 4-0 start since 2013. Not a superb performance, but a win on the road in the Eastern time zone is tough at best for a West Coast team. The 'Hawks went into this game pretty beat up, with key players missing, particularly in the secondary--Jamal Adams, Quinton Dunbar, Lano Hill and Neiko Thorpe. So with their 1st- and 2nd-string strong safeties out (Adams and Hill), they went with recent practice-squad call-up and 3rd-stringer Ryan Neal. Neal, however, played very well, grabbing his second interception in two games. They were also missing their starting right corner, Quinton Dunbar, who was replaced by Tre Flowers.

K. J. Wright, playing a lot of SAM backer yesterday, had a monster game, and Chris Carson, coming off that awful knee-twisting he suffered in the Dallas game, played hard and tough, racking up 80 yards on 16 carries. So somewhat surprisingly, they had a strong run game to go with the sparkling aerial display (360 yards) put up again by Russell Wilson, who made some seemingly-impossible throws, with seemingly-impossible catches on the other end. I’ve attached some video of the game highlights below; be sure to look at the 57-yard bomb Wilson threw, while rolling left, to David Moore, just seconds before halftime. Moore came up big again late in the 4th quarter with a toe dance in the end zone to snag a TD pass.

A depressing little nugget of information: after 4 weeks, the Seahawks rank 32nd in total defense (even worse than the Cowboys). Yikes!! The D has to improve substantially or the 'Hawks will be lucky to even make the playoffs let alone do anything once there. I think that John Schneider needs to reach out for help and do it soon. Looks as if the 350-lb. nose tackle aptly named "Snacks" Harrison and LB Mychal Kendricks are scheduled in for visits this week. Kendricks, of course, was with the Seahawks in 2018-19, but tore his ACL in Week 17 last season and has been in recovery since. He also has a fast-approaching court date on insider-trading charges.

Next Sunday at home, the Seahawks host the Vikings. That should be a good one. Let’s hope Adams and Dunbar make it back.

Cam Wake is riding the pine at home is he not. Maybe they could call him in for a look see. He might do well in a linebacker role.

That's a thought. I am very surprised that the Seahawks haven't reached out to Clay Matthews for pass-rush help.

So what do the Seahawks do on 3rd and 4 at the end of game. Dah. Run the ball. End of game. No needless drama. Bb

The Titans (and to a lesser extent, the Patriots) COVID situation continues, causing the possibility of more postponements and changes to the NFL schedule

Too close for comfort for Seahawks fans. :dizzy:

Seahawks were totally flat in the first half to trail 13-0. Fighting back in early third quarter to force two turnovers and three quick touchdowns to take the lead, before the Seahawks defence becomes flat again to allow the Vikings to take two TD's to take the lead, but at least they managed to stop a crucial fourth down and inches play to give the Seahawks offence one last chance - and that they did by converting two fourth down plays to steal the 27-26 win.

A much needed bye week coming up to allow the players to rest and recuperate.

On a related note, the third to last Seahawks offensive play reminds me of the Fail Mary on September 24, 2012 in which one official ruled no catch while another ruled a touchdown, and the touchdown ruling was determined as the final ruling.
Image

In the NFL when it comes to conflicting rulings, who can overrule?

At 0:33 of this video:

DK Metcalf appeared to be on full control of the ball and clearly crossed the end pane before it was jarred loose. Therefore, as soon as the ball crossed the pane with the player in control, should the play immediately end and ruled a touchdown? With less than 2 minutes, I wonder why it wasn't video reviewed.

In this play, the LJ was the closest to the play and ruled a TD while the FJ said no catch. Obviously the Referee (R) is the highest ranking official and can probably overrule all the other officials or at least choose a video review. But is there some ranking of the other officials that allows one official to overrule another?

Well on a weekend where KC lost, the Seahawks are the first team to go 5-0. I keep expecting them to mess up and the way they started tonight, it looked like they were going to come up flat against a sub 500 team. But they somehow managed to dodge a bullet again. They really need to beef up their D. and stop some teams when it really counts. I know, I know, they did do it tonight but they keep letting teams hang around and you can't count on being able to pull it out at the last second.

Another heart-stopper for the Seahawks. Just lucky to get the win. Once again, the defense was porous. The Vikings out-gained the ‘Hawks 449 to 314 yds. What had been a good Seahawks run defense earlier in the season was gouged for
201 yds. on the ground. Russell Wilson was not quite up to his earlier form, nor was the offense overall, but that last minute drive was something to behold. A lot of Vikings fans will pile on Coach Zimmer for the decision to go for it on 4th and less than one with under 2 minutes remaining rather than kick a chip-shot field goal. But that play had a very high probability of success and failed largely through poor execution (or, alternatively, a stellar defensive play by the Seahawks Bobby Wagner and Benson Mayowa); it should have succeeded and would have ended the game right there.

For those interested, here’s the game summary video, with all the most important plays. When you click on the video, you'll have to click on "Watch on YouTube."

Just ran across this on Pro Football Talk. Seahawks' defense averaging the most yards allowed in the NFL:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... s-allowed/

On another note, in the Steelers/Eagles game, local boy and rookie Chase Claypool came up big…really big. He scored four touchdowns—three via receptions! Claypool evidently grew up in Abbotsford, playing for Abbotsford High School, then went to Notre Dame where he starred. He was taken by the Steelers in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft. He’s big—6-4, 238 lbs. and looks like a star in the making. A lot like the Seahawks’ D.K. Metcalf, also a 2nd round pick and about the same size. Metcalf has a slight edge in speed (4.33 vs 4.42). Both athletic freaks.
