Tim Brown gave us a huge start.
Riders ground game ran rough shod over us.
Our pass defence was pretty good.
Solo all over the field.
Q4, trailing 19-16. Durant not playing. Sunseri doing a good job subbing.
228 yards rushing for the Riders, 56 for the Lions. Not much difference other than that. No turnovers. Riders have our O under control. And they have run the ball well.
Big sack by Ricky Foley. He has a great motor.
Fairly intense game. Not sure our game planning was all that good.
Tight game.
Bazzie tackle for a loss.
Glenn rolled on. Injured. Wincing on the bench. 5 minutes left.
Our O has been stifled. Sunseri gave the Riders the lead. And control near the end.
Allen big run.
The Riders showing they want it more. Our game planning very pedestrian. 2:41 left.
Benny and Skully should lose a few pounds.
Benny seems like a not very good high school coach. Can he grow and develop as Buono has alleged? Dunno about that.
Benny the Blather. Benny the Bluster. He was relatively restrained tonight.
Blather ... Long winded talk with no real substance.
Bluster ... Loud, indignant talk with little effect.
2:13 left. Big punt. 4 point lead.
Lulay scattergunning the ball. That looks like interference on the Riders. Reaching before the ball gets there. Not looking back at the QB. ?????
No time out left to challenge PI at the end. D'oh.
10-0 after Q1 and we lose, with Durant on the bench.
Saskatchewan's OL showed their stuff tonight. They owned our front four. We needed to blitz, but we played it conservative. On O we had no idea how to open a hole for Harris. No passing game.
Benny trying to show he knows D by talking to Mark W. MW just looking at his playsheets.
In the battle of coaching, we are unarmed.
Reality bites. We are also rans. In the middle of the pack, where we have been for quite a while now. We can strap on the pads and play hard. Can we win the chess game that is key in football? Not based on our record lately.

Lions could not play four quarters of football to hang on to the win...worrisome if this becomes a trend...disappointing would be a understatement
"Just Win Baby" ~ Al Davis
Pretty much so, it was a battle all night, just the Riders kept on battling for 60 minutes the Lions not so much. Riders wanted the game more plain and simple, perhaps Skulsky shouldn't have made it gaurantee night afterall. One thing to the plus side, is the Lions do hold the tie breaker vs the Riders should that come into play down the road.Rodu wrote:What it comes down to is they won the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball
Entertainment value = an all time low
Two times we should have gone for field goals and we punted instead. Both those punts failed to pin the Riders deep. If our punter is that bad at placing his kicks, perhaps McCallum should be taking those short accurate punts, though I would have liked to see field goal attempts.
We never tried a long ball either that I can recall. Offensively, we stunk the place out. If it wasn't for Brown and Logan on kick returns and our D, it would have been even more embarrassing than it was already.
Still, I have to hand it to Saskatchewan. They did a good job of pounding the ball in the second half when the D became more tired.

Enough is enough.
Offense a total no show...Jones=brutal play calling no deep shots down field,Logan ignored in the run game...Benny outcoached at home again & Lions remain locked in last place....what happens if this team doesnt make the playoffs??!?!
lines were dominated tonite.
oline - when is that import guard back. valli needs to go to non-stater
dline - missed westerman in the rotation (might not see him again) ... might have to bring someone in using a DI spot; mitchell getting better but not good enough.

It looks like the QB controversy is no more. Glenn is No 1 and Lulay is the Backup. Lulay couldn't even keep up to the Rookie QB of Sask. Why on earth the Leos didn't blitz a new rookie QB remains a mystery. Our running game was virtually non existant. A subpar performance by everybody including the coaching staff. I imagine the owner will lose approx. 1 million in ticket sales and rightfully so. Ya play the game, ya takes you chances. Hopefully Glenn goes the rest of the year, he deserves it and Lulay simply couldn't perform when called upon and deserved the #2 slot for the remainder of the season
Speaking of Westerman they said in the 1040 postgame he missed walk-through yesterday although I didn't heard any explanation (my reception was spotty at that time). Was this another discipline issue on his part or was he excused?Qman wrote:dline - missed westerman in the rotation (might not see him again) ... might have to bring someone in using a DI spot; mitchell getting better but not good enough.
Right after the Ssk FG to make it 16-12 in Q3 we opted to scrimmage on our 35 instead of taking a kickoff when our return game to that point (Tim Brown esp) was on fire. Why?
Also on the play in Q4 where Glenn was injured and left the game it looked he went into a feet first slide, in which case the defence isn't supposed to touch him. But they hit him, so why wasn't that flagged? Did they just figure the D committed before the slide?
Finally, I hate to admit it but the Ssk fans in attendance today cheered loud when they had the chance; you couldn't miss it. When Chick tackled Harris for a huge loss in Q3. The Clark touchdown. The 29yd Bagg catch on their 2nd-last drive as they were trying to run out the clock. And cheering on their D on our final last gasp drive. I don't know if I've ever heard them louder in BCP than today, even including playoff games. Certainly they had more to cheer about than us.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

This is why you NEVER guarantee a win! It almost always jinx's the team! Told everyone at work it would backfire on them. Hope you like buying all the fans free tickets to a future game Dennis ? LOL

Very frustrating afternoon. Lions got off to a quick 10-0 lead, offence couldn't sustain any consistent drives. Poor play calling. Why are Lions insisting on running up the middle when they are getting stopped consistently ?Why was Logan pretty well ignored ?

Well I was at this game, and after a quick start by the Lions putting up 10 points on their first 2 possessions, the remainder of the game and particularly the second half was very disappointing. The guaranteed win ploy worked out in the sense that it was a big crowd, a lot more orange than green, with a lot of enthusiasm to start the game. But it's hard for any crowd to stay in a game when the offensive game plan is incomprehensibly dull and conservative. With all the talent that we have at receiver, why is the OC refusing to take a shot downfield and instead having his receivers constantly run the end-around, or opting for short passes in traffic? It's become so predictable at this point in the season... I thought the special teams had a much better effort than what we've seen in previous games, to give them their due. The defence played well and made some key stops early. But the Lions' momentum died quickly whenever the offence took the field. I am beyond frustrated with the Lions coaching this year, because I think that we have a talented team and their skills are being squandered. When a team has good protection up front and an experienced QB along with a solid receiving corps and great talent at RB, I think that our astonishingly poor output on offence can only be attributed to coaching. What a shame.
