The next Grey Cup - 2008
Moderator: Team Captains
The 2008 Grey Cup is in Montreal and I guess they will play in Olympic Stadium. Has anyone been to a Grey Cup there? Just wondering what it is like to go to a game in the big O. I looked on the CFL website forum and saw opinions for and against. One comment was that it was far away from downtown and quite isolated. Others liked it though.

I attended many a Montreal Alouette / Concorde game in the 70's and 80's and was also at the 2001 Grey Cup game. Like any hybrid baseball / football stadium of it's era, it's a lousy venue for both sports, as the seats feel far away from the actual playing field.
The Big O is on the eastern part of the city, as far as transit - it's an easy 20 minute Metro ride from downtown Montreal. Once on the Metro, it's an underground trip right to the entrance of the Stadium - so if you do go to Grey Cup - leave the cold weather clothes back at the hotel.
As far as being "isolated" - that comment is pretty accurate. The Big O does stand by its' lonesome as far as outside activity is concerned. There are no exterior bars / restaurants in the immediate vicinity, although there is a beer garden in the ground level Metro entrance.
The 2001 game had great atmosphere, and with over 69,000 seats, it's an impressive site when the building is full.

Do you know if the 2008 Grey Cup village in Montreal will be in the area where the Queen Elizabeth hotel is located? There isn't much info available yet but they will probably do something like they did the last time the Grey Cup was held there.......in terms of where the festiviities are. So was that near the QE area?

The Queen Elizabeth hotel is in the downtown corridor area of Montreal. The Olympic Village is adjacent to the Big O - approx 10 km from the city center - or, 15 minutes by Metro. In 2001, most of the outdoor Fan Fest type of events were held in Place Jacques Cartier, which is a block away from the Queen Elizabeth Hotel and 5 blocks from the nightlife of Crescent St.
