Not really trying to start a new thread... just looking for an answer. With all the talk of Joseph's contract and salary caps in other threads I'm wondering if I am remembering correctly something about Doug Flutie....

At one time was the CFL either holding Flutie's contract (maybe when McNall went broke or to jail) or was there talk that the CFL would take over Flutie's contract in order to be able to assign him to which ever team would most benefit his being their QB?

You do remember correctly Balize City Lion...and the talk was there that the league would have to take over his contract! However it never happended although there is the possibility the league did make some payments to him....but if they did it was hush hush!

A million dollars for a player, especially back then, was one heck of a lot of money! Flutie was a great quarterback...very smart, could run like a deer, and had all the intangibles.

Interesting that Buono also considered Flutie his best pupil as a quarterback. Buono also compared Printers to Flutie in terms of Printers being someone who is very coachable on the field, does what he is told like Flutie, and has a keen desire to learn.

The Patriots and Belechek make very smart decisions. That they chose to go with Flutie, a 42 year old, as their back up quarterback this year says volumes about Flutie and what he can still do on a football field.
