I have a Woodward's Quarterback Club shoulder patch from 1955. The graphics are beyond crude, but hey, it's from 1955. Anyone know if there are older ones than that? After all, they started playing in 1954, I believe.
Cheers!

I own all of the Quarterback Club patches. There was a patch in '54, but it wasn't Woodward's department store. It was McGavin's bakery (the last, 1968, was McDonald's).

So the patch was the mountain lion logo with "McGavin's" above it, and "Quarterback Club" below it.

Hope this helps.

Maybe you can take a picture of all the patches and show it to us, David.

In the meantime, here's the one for 1963:

I was thinking it started in 55 as I think that year was the first year I went to games but yes, I now recall McGavins - then big bakery company were there first.

Interestingly enough, the 1955 patch by Woodwards used the same "lion" as the McGavins 1954 patch used. I guess it was a sponsor name change only. I have the entire set in unused condition, with the 1968 MacDonalds and the 1954 McGavins being the most difficult to find. I found the 1954 at an estate sale in Toronto -it had been stored in a filing cabinet not seeing the light of day for over 20 years, along with a 1955 and a 1956. Only took four years to find it! Sometimes I take all the patches out and line them up just to admire the graphics and see the changes in the look over the years.
Is there any reason not to bring back the Quarterback Club? Would be a fun exercise to see what company may be willing to undertake the sponsorship. The free promotion alone, not to mention the buzz for the kids (of all ages) to resurrect this program could be a blast!

It looks like Woodward's also sponsored a similar Edmonton Eskimos fan club way back in 1957.

But the Knothole Gang club for kids 12 and under still exists.

I have taken a shot of the two rarest; the first ('54 McGavin's) and the last ('68 McDonald's). I would believe the 1968 McDonald's would have the most value, as it would appeal to the vast number of McDonald's collectors.

Thanks for those scans - the patches are nice.

Not to highjack the thread, but there were also Lions water decals that were produced in the 1960's by Canada Decalcomania that had some nice graphics and the "Roar Lions Roar" slogan. I've seen the decals as early as 1960 and as late as 1968 but I was wondering if anyone knows whether they were produced before 1960 or after 1968? I have seen ads for the decals in old programs (from ebay which shows a 1959 decal) but was wondering when they may have started?

Thanks Ken

Don't know when they were started, but here's some Lions decals.

I have a bunch of these, but here's a sampling for you, Ken. I have decals after '68 (i.e. 1971 attached), but I don't believe they were from the Decalmania company - at least, they're not identified as such.

Below are some additional scans. If anyone has any additional insight into the decals/ stickers they've issued over the years it would appreciated. I have a list from 1956 to today (with holes) if anyone is interested.
