KAPP, JOE, Elected as a Player, March 16, 1984. Twice an All-Canadian All-Star Quarterback and twice an All-Western All-Star, Kapp played eight years in the CFL initially with Calgary and for almost six seasons with B.C. He passed for 22,925 yards and guided the Lions to their first Grey Cup win in 1964.

At one time Quarterback Joe Kapp's # 22 was retired however it was un-retired by General Manger Joe Kapp when the club signed another famous # 22 Doug Flutie.

Joe Kapp is a well-known and highly respected personality in the United States, Canada and the Bay Area.

Kapp led the Minnesota Vikings to their first-ever divisional title and playoff game in 1968 and the following year guided the Vikings to Super Bowl IV against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 1964, Kapp led the CFL British Columbia Lions to their first Grey Cup win, and earned a spot in the CFL Hall of Fame. He is the only player to quarterback in an NFL Super Bowl, CFL Grey Cup and NCAA Rose Bowl games. And Kapp is the last quarterback to throw seven touchdown passes in an NFL game!

Joe Kapp has a long successful history in the Bay Area going back to the late 1950's when he led the Cal Bears to their last Rose Bowl appearance and played on Pete Newell's NCAA Championship Basketball Team.

Most recently, from 1982-86, he served as Coach of the Cal Bears earning PAC-10 Coach of the Year honors in 1982. Kapp was also the architect of what millions of fans consider the most exciting play in the history of college football, Cal's heart stopping comeback defeat of John Elway led Stanford, using a five-lateral kick-off return with only :04 left in the game. That moment went down in history as "The Play"!

After pro football, Joe took his fire and fury to Hollywood where he became a recognizable character actor in major films and popular TV shows. Whether as a bully prison guard opposite Burt Reynolds in "The Longest Yard" or as a quiet sidekick to Fess Parker in "Climb an Angry Mountain", Joe continued to attract fans.
