It is looking like by Sept just about everyone that wants a vaccine will have had at least one shot so I am predicting a Sept CFL start with limited crowds and seating.

Provincial and federal governments have said everyone will have a chance to receive their first dose by July 1 and second dose by the end of September but that timetable is likely to be moved up as a result of increased vaccine supply.

I agree--the latest news indicates we will have an unlimited supply of US produced Pfizer from now on. The issue will be the lawyered away statement of Ambrosie about the conditions of a season start dependent on fans/stands. They will have to make a decision for starting training camps long before there is confirmation by every provincial gov't that this can happen (starting the season with no fans/stands would easily be approved.)

In order for there to be an unlimited or even adequate amounts of the vaccine available, the Biden Admin in the US will first need to lift the patent law, which would then allow hugely needed production in India to ramp up.

So far with the patents still in effect, the U.S. drug company lobby seems to be winning out, so I remain skeptical of a pre Sept start to the CFL.

The best hope is that the US government finally acknowledges the fact that with a worldwide pandemic it is in the USA's best interest to fight the pandemic on a worldwide basis. I'm hopeful but not counting on the US government to figure things out but it may be too late for many in India.

The US govt is doing that now--their production is now far more than the US population will need, and Trump's America First is being dropped in favor of assuring their neighboring borders can soon be fully opened--Mexico and Canada will get what they need first, then the rest of the world.

From what I'm hearing, India is in a crisis that it is largely it's own doing. They were a major exporter of the SII AZ vaccine, and their govt was full of bravado that they were doing so much better than the West.

Then the current wave hit them. They cut off exports and COVAX reliant African countries are suffering because of it.

Pfizer has presented proof that the product has been tested and safe, but the Modi govt is blocking imports.

To me, Modi is right up there with Bolsonaro and Trump in the COVID Hall of Shame

Not entirely accurate--it wasn't a NO. The BC Gov't indicated they need more time to review the return to play plan.
Also, all the other provinces split off the condition of allowing fans/stands. They said come back to them by June 15th for a decision on that part of the plan.

Correct. I understand from Rick LeLacheur that the discussions with B.C. health authorities have all been positive.

The approach the lions shouldvtake is to first organize a training camp and fly the players into the camp with a doctor supervised quarantine. Get all USA players to get to Seattle where we could arrange a charter flight to TC its a given that all players must be fully vaccinated and tested negative before travelling.that's where we need t o start. Get the feds on side to smooth border crossing it can be done just need to have the will to work with the situation

Idont thinks that lions football is off the table. Weve had two weeks with all numbers declining and vaccinations are surging. If these trends continue i expect the pressure on govt will become very serious to get us to a new bettertnormal.the key is to keep up the vaccinations and low new Case level's.Sask hasd rolled out an ambitious plan and that ties restrictions being relaxed with vaccine uptake. I think Dr Henry is trying o under promise and then over deliver.. And she eants to keep us all safe and thayts a good thing. My wife got hert first shot a couple days ago and the nurse tokd her that they were giving 600 shots per day 7 days a week with no time off. So, things ate looking positive. Keep the faith!

Finally some encouraging news about the likelihood of fans/stands coming to BC Place by "later in the summer".

In terms of summer Aug 5 is almost the half way point so anything after that is trendings towards later in the summer. There were indications a mew schedule might be released soon. Methinks the CFL will be wise to hold off as long as they can to get as much solid info as possible on which jurisdictions will allow fans and when. I don't think we will see all stadiums being on the same plan so best to load up early home games on the places they feel will allow it earliest.

As for some of the already cancelled events I don't find that concerns me. The nature and size of things like Pride Parade, Festival of Lights, PNE and Dragon Boat Festival are such that they need a definite yes from health officials now, not in a couple of weeks or in a month. There's too much planning and money that has to be forked over in advance to proceed on a maybe. They are massive events. A Lions game is a little garden party in comparison. An average night at the Festival of Lights attracts 3 times more attendees than the Lions drew for the entire 2019 season.

Beauty move by the Argos in signing MBT. Not sure he will see the field as much as he would like but that conversation has likely already taken place. Assuming both sides are happy.

Matt Baker informs that Claudell Louis and Bob Dyce's son Trysten have been added to the Lions' coaching staff as assistants on defence and offence respectively. https://www.bclions.com/2021/06/02/lion ... ing-staff/

I’m happy to see the Loons round out their staff, which was among the leanest in the CFL. As a coach’s son, Dyce has probably had a good grounding in the sport. Louis is a bright and personable young man who made Vancouver his home and spent a lot of time around the Lions’ facility. He obviously was looking to extend his football career with the transition to coaching. It’s a bit of a gamble by the club but the new coaches can learn from more experienced staff members. I wish them well.
