Succinct 3 minutes of Farhan on TSN 1040 this morning. At 7:46 they shift from Canucks to CFL. Farhan says he has had enough of deadline talk and rumours--"Are you playing or are you not?"
Is there not some irony to that? A lot of the things that have been getting CFL fans all wound up about the to play or not to play CFL season start with Farhan giving said rumours some oxygen when he tweets them out.

Not sure how to take the MLSE news and look forward to learning more details.

I see this morning on 3DN that Dale Lastman, son of former Toronto mayor Mel Lastman, and member of MLSE board of directors is also Chairman of the CFL board of Directors. Would be too good to be true to think he is a volunteer and unreal that we have such a tightly knit group of people always showing up with these great jobs and positions.

Also curious if the proposed changes will affect the CBA. Would be nice to keep this from turning into a court battle.

Lastman is quite an accomplished individual, probably much more so than his furniture salesman/mayor old man. He's a lawyer and professor and member of the Order of Canada. Based on his wiki bio it seems the CFL is fortunate to have him involved.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dale_Lastman

Dale H. Lastman, C.M. (born 19 March 1957) is the current Chair of Goodmans. He is the son of former Toronto mayor Mel Lastman.

Career and community involvement:
Dale H. Lastman, C.M. practices corporate, commercial and securities law with Goodmans. He serves as a Director of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and serves as an Alternate Governor for both the NHL and the NBA. In 2019, Dale was elected Chair of the Board of the CFL. He also serves as Governor of the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL. In 2018 he was appointed Chair of the board of Baycrest Health Sciences. In addition, he serves as an Honorary Trustee of the Hospital for Sick Children, and sits on the Board of Directors of RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust and Roots Ltd.

In 2017, Dale was named a Member of the Order of Canada. In 2014, Dale was appointed by the Minister of National Defence as an Honorary Captain of the Royal Canadian Navy. He has also been awarded the rank of an Honorary Detective by the Toronto Police Service. Dale has been recognized among "Toronto's 50 Most Influential People" by Toronto Life Magazine. He was honoured as one of the ICRF's 2010 "Men of Distinction" for his philanthropic efforts and contributions to the community and in 2011 and 2012, was presented with the ICRF's Chairman's Award. Dale is a Director of Canada's "Top 40 Under 40", a recipient of the Award and its "Best of the Best" Canadian Leadership Award.

For over 30 years, Dale was one of Osgoode Hall Law School's longest serving lecturers in securities law. During his tenure, he received the Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence as well as the Alumni Gold Key award for outstanding professional achievement and contribution to the legal community. In 2014, Dale was named Distinguished Visiting Fellow in the Law Practice Program at Ryerson University.

Good digging as usual Hambone.

Quite a lot on his plate with NHL, NBA, CFL, Argos but no doubt he has help. He probably knows Drake. Obviously well off so maybe he is a volunteer. I remember his father being in controversy as mayor a couple of times.

I don't actually put much faith in the Order of Canada after watching Prem Watsa in action. Nice title though.

We'll see if they get a deal done. Seems as good a time as any to make a stand for the players. If I remember from the last negotiation they let all the training camp attendees vote or something and all issues were resolved quickly.

gruncing......

honestly, $30mm seems like chump change for what is going on these days...... cfl is one of the few things that really links regions across canada.

government has helped all kinds of cultural institutions, many of whom employ americans... certainly, mike reilly and a few other QB's making $700k is bad optics. i think the CFL should have had a player salary cap before now. like $250k limit. spread the money around.

I don't see this as irony as much as he is fed up with feeding his followers/listeners/viewers with false hope. It's not like he is fabricating anything. Instead, he has been talking to CFL execs and players and passing along this info but he (like most of us) is fed up with the false promises and his role as a conduit and has decided to take a stand.

Good for him. Enough with this nonsense. :wag:
