Favourite BC Lions Logo

With all this talk about favourite BC Lions stadiums, uniforms, helmets, etc then I guess it won't hurt to add yet another poll and discussion. While there's some similarities with the helmets, the logos are not necessary identical.

There have been seven primary BC Lions logos, along with a bunch of alternates and special logs as well. For the poll, I'll use the primary logos:

1954 - 1966

1967 - 1977

1978 - 1989

1990 - 2004

2005 - 2010

2011 - 2015

2016 - Present

It looks like the last five logos have the similar shape and only had colouring and shading differences.

For discussion, you can discuss the various alternate logos, mostly in the form of the paw logo:

And there were also some special logos for the anniversary or Grey Cup wins:

I can’t see a difference between the current logo and the 2005-2010 version but I voted for the current one. Either one is classy.

I'm a big fan of the cat's paw logo and wish there was more gear with that logo available these days.

If we are talking all logos, I like the original lion astride the "BC LIONS" football. I don't think it was ever used on a helmet/uni? The artwork has staying power, doesn't obviously look like it was drawn in 1954. I remember seeing CFL player cards that used it as the team logo in the early '70s (at the same time TOR was the blue PULL TOGETHER ARGOS boat.)

According to this, the logo was primary 1954-66, then alternate 1967-77. I suppose any use of it from 1978 onwards is "retro".

As logos go, we've done pretty well as an organization.

I like the original "mountain lion astride a football" logo best. It is visually striking. The mountain lion's ferocious demeanour says, "come take this ball if you dare" which is a powerful symbol for a football team.

I also like the 1967-1977 "snarling lion," but I am also good with our traditional logo that we've kept in one form or other since 1978. Not too big on the brown lion head when we (temporarily) moved away from black, but maybe that's just me.

You are correct. It was never featured on a helmet but from 1954-1977, it was the official crest or "mark."

Robbie could probably have included "the paw" because that was the helmet logo used for 5 seasons from 1962-1966 (and more recently on the gunmetals in 2013-14) as well as when we went retro (2009-10).

Yes, I could have but decided not to as there's already a thread on BC Lions helmets only:

Furthermore, the design on the Lions helmet is NOT necessary the primary team's logo for any particular season.
For instance, from 1954 - 1959, the helmet was simply plain orange with no design but obviously the team did have a primary team logo. And in 1971 the Lions helmet had a special design as a homage to the Canadian Confederacy Centennial, but obviously that design was in no way an official primary Lions team logo.
