The 2019 home and away uniforms look a lot better with black pants. The orange pants are particularly ghastly with the home orange jerseys.

To play  advocate, there's always a chance that you will:

1. Like the home uniform, but dislike the road uniform and if applicable, alternate uniform.
2. Like the road uniform, but dislike the home uniform and if applicable, alternate uniform.
3. Dislike the main uniforms, but love the alternate uniform for that season if applicable.
4. If applicable, among the alternate uniforms there might be more than just one such as in 2019 and you only like one of them.
5. If applicable, love or dislike the retro uniform.
Yes, the way the Lions released alternates and retro variations from 2006 onwards, all of these are likely.
I remember when 2016-2018 came out, the designer said they wanted to make use of the freedom of a new non-primary logo in the most innovative ways possible. This resulted in a good look for the home unis, but an execrable version for the away version (easily the most polarizing two unis ever made for one season.)
2019 (as many have pointed out) had the seemingly minor tweak of orange or black pants having a dramatic effect on both home and away unis.
2013-2014 3rd uni was such a startling design, compared to the very basic looking orange-white main uniforms that had been around for years. It was also released in a stealthy game-time fashion, which was why it was a big hit (but not with anyone who had to read the numbers from a distance).

I am convinced it was David Braley who was not a fan of the gunmetal 3rds. That is the reason they were deep-sixed after 4 games over two seasons. Dennis Skulsky claimed on President's Week on TSN1040 that it was the club's poor W-L record in them as to why they disappeared so quickly. Hard to believe after those jerseys flew off the shelves!

Maybe it was a league decision to discontinue but I recall reading between the lines in Skulsky's interview that Mr. Braley needed some convincing on them. He's always favoured orange for his football team.

Worst jerseys in team history. Who came up with the idea of putting black numbers on a gun-metal black background? Uniforms are supposed to help viewers instantly identify the team by colour scheme and the players by numbers. The gun-metal jerseys failed miserably on both counts.

Missing from this array is the 2006 alternate home jerseys we won the Grey Cup in, which would edge out the 1960s era ones.
Due to space limitations, it was between that one and the 2019 uniform. But if I left that out, some might ask, "what about the currents??"

Hmmm, I thought you hated the orange lids from that year?? There were parts of the uniform I liked. Wasn't big on the (wide to tapered) pant stripes. That little patch of white in the shoulder looked a little awkward too.

Considering the Bengals stole it as the base for their uniform redesign the next year, I think it had some merit.

You're right though, the regular orange ones were trash.

This short video shows some 1970's Lions games in which you can see their uniforms and Empire Stadium:

One thing I'm uncertain about is at 0:29 and 0:40, regarding the shoulder numbers, some players have black numbers while others have white numbers. I wonder if they signify anything.

For me it's always easy to tell which year the photo was taken.

1972 - we went with orange jerseys with black numbers
1973 - we continued with orange jerseys, but we had white numbers on front/back and black numbers on the sleeves. Not sure why.
1974 - same orange jerseys but we ditched the black numbers on the sleeves and went with all white numbers on front/back and sleeves
1975 - same
1976 - we went back to black numbers on the orange jerseys. Our sleeves featured a thick white stripe with black outline.
1977 - same
1978 - we switched to burnt orange jerseys with brown accent colours and white helmets.

You're observant Robbie to notice that a couple of those pics had a mixture of white numbers on the sleeve and black numbers on the sleeve. I suspect this was a 1974 preseason game where uniforms were sometimes a mix of new with the previous seasons' jersey. Some players/teams even played without a logo on the helmet back then.

You could be right on the preseason game theory. Back in those days and even later CFL team budgets being what they were teams didn't change jersey sets out like they do today. They weren't against trying to squeeze every last stitch of life out of uniforms fashion police be damned. Maybe that's where Kato learned the frugality he was known for.

My Ty Chatman game worn has a 93 tag on it. When I bought it I thought it would have been nice to have been from the 1994 Grey Cup year. When he happened to see me wearing it in the Shark Club one afternoon he stopped by my table for a second to chat. I told him it was his 93 jersey and he corrected me saying no they wore the same ones in 94 too. Of course they wore the whites in the 94 GC game.
You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.

Here's an interesting choice in which there's only one of two choices.

There's definitely a league mandated rule indicating that a player's number must appear in four places on the uniform:

1. Large numbers on the front of the jersey.
2. Large numbers on the back of the jersey under the name (and the name must be a large, legible font).
3. Small numbers on the left side of the arm.
4. Small numbers on the right side of the arm.

But with regards to points 3 and 4 there is more flexibility as there are two options as to where the number can be placed:

A) At the top of the shoulder pads, in which case the arm sleeves might contain other designs like the logo or arm stripes:
ImageImage

B) At the outside of the arm sleeves, in which case the shoulder pads might have shoulder stripes or logos:

However, up to the 1970's there were also cases in which both the number and a design appeared on the arm sleeve with no design on the shoulder pads:

So what kind do you like more - the number appearing on the arm sleeve or shoulder pad?
