Do we really want to do this? Gawd. Might as well. It is our team, going back decades.

GM Ed Hervey. Fail.

The cupboard is virtually empty of young, new, quality Internationals. We had no 1st round pick this year. He has gone All-In with Mike Reilly, and we do not even give him good pass protection. Our record is 1 and 5. We hear that the talent is good, but it does not look like it on the field. Pass rush? Pass protection? Receiving talent? Linebackers?

HC DeVone Claybrooks. Fail.

Collapse in the second half in game after game. He says a lot of cliche stuff, but the results on the field are abysmal. Some players, who should be leaders, do not demonstrate that at practice, goofing off in stretching, et cetera. Leadership is a huge issue with this team, and that starts and ends with the Head Coach. This fan cannot accept multiple excuses for why Mike Reilly is allowed to stay in the game, taking unnecessary hits, when the outcome has been determined.

OC Jarious Jackson. Fail.

We did not even use the run game early in the year, and that set a head scratching tone. Where is the pass protection system?

DC Rich Stubler. Fail.

Collapse of the defence, late in games, time after time. Learning curve for the players? Responsibility lies with the DC.

STs Taylor Altilio. Fail.

Tricked. Long returns against. The CFL's best teams do detailed preparation with STs, on side kicks, good returns, punt blocks. We do none of that.

QB Mike Reilly. Pass.

Good yardage, but it seems to this fan that he undermines the authority of his Head Coach, when he refuses to come out of games. No one else gets to take a snap. No development of a backup. Fajardo looks good in Regina, by the way. But Reilly's buddy from Edmonton was brought over to backup, so to speak.

RBs. Very good. White and Rutley.

Receivers. Burnham is doing what we expect. Carter has been a disappointment. Any other game breaking Internationals on the roster?

O Line. Fail in pass protection. Not their fault as individuals, as the scheme and system hangs them out to dry, imo. Their run blocking is much better in my opinion.

D Line. Fail. Not enough talent. Coleman and Louis are not making a strong impression. Willis is doing little. The other rush end contributes little. Pass rush non-existent.

LBs. Fail. Not stopping the run late in games. Not getting pressure on the QB. Not great in pass coverage.

DBs. Pass. Without pressure on the QB, guys cannot cover all day.

STs players. Pass. Punts, kickoffs, FGs all adequate, but not much beyond that. We got tricked on the onside kick that led to a loss.

Ownership. Fail. Missing in action. Away without leave. Absentee. Should have sold the team sometime around 2007 or 2012, following Grey Cup wins.
...............

Just in my opinion. And these opinions are not carved in stone.

Depressing but fair grades all around, Joe. I really like DeVone Claybrooks the man and have had several nice chats with him this year, including a couple when he came into the stands at training camp to introduce himself to fans. But his casual, laid-back approach seems to run through the coaching staff and players and extends to the way his team plays. Practices are slow-paced and lack intensity. Team leaders wander around chatting during warmups. The quarterback tells he coach what he will and won’t do. Leadership is lacking. The players lose battles at the line of scrimmage, fail to generate pressure on the QB and play soft pass defence when the game is on the line. It all starts at the top.

Thanks, BCFAN.

I guess we are all surprised by the results on the field.

DeVone is a first year HC, and the transition to that role is a great unknown.

Saddled with Jarious, whose offence seems terrible. Hard to learn. Hard to run. Easy to defend.

Headstrong QB who seems above the HC in the pecking order.

Ed threw away a lot of good players. Fajardo, Rose to mention just two. Ed seems to have lost it this year. Thorough lack of young, new INTs. Reliance on bargain basement, castoff players.

Rookie coaches.

It is a bad mix.

There is nothing about this Lions team that I find compelling or interesting to watch.

The exception is Cattoy who is a better than average young prospect. Everyone else from Ed on down seems to be under preforming.

Jackson's playbook and play calling is so bad that it is an embarrassment.

Ed Hervey.

* Cuts: Rose. Fajardo. Posey. Collins. Awe. Lokombo. Elimimian. Foster.
Arceneaux. Lemon. Orange. Rainey.

* Holdover: Jarious.

* Additions: coaches and players. Reilly. Chungh. Carter. White. Rutley. Castillo. Boesen. Harris. Edwards. Grymes. Others. More to come.

A Rose. A Lemon. An Orange. Rotten Tomatoes for Ed?

Blame game?

#1 Ed seemed to lose it this year, with so very many bad decisions.

#2 Jarious seems to have no feel for the game, as an OC. Astonishing. IMO, as a QB he had no feel for short passes, all thrown as rockets, bouncing off hands. On long balls he threw javelins, not all that successful. No touch. No feel. It seems the same for him as OC.

#3 DeVone Claybrooks, in way over his head.

#4 Rich Stubler. Can't make his defence effective. No pass rush, etc.

#5 Mike Reilly, as noted in the most recent post game thread. He is the QB, very high on the pecking order in the organization, the highest paid player in the league. He is the leader, as the team reaches a 1 and 6 record. As noted, the Eskimos, with him as QB last year, missed the playoffs.

Not a Reilly hater. Gawd, no. I've always liked him as a player, and as an athlete in the community. Maybe he is just trying too hard, trying to do too much. At least Claybrooks took him out with 3 minutes left, in a lost game. No one puts his body more at risk than Mike Reilly, but imo, that is not what is good for the team.

He does not need 5,000 passing yards to justify his contract. What he needs is for the team to win. Shorter routes. Outlets. Run game. Draw plays. Screens. Hitches, although we do not seem to have a good hitch receiver. RBs, from pass protection, finding a hole in the defence, ala Andrew Harris. Variety. Between Jarious and Mike, we need better pass protection schemes. Tight end sets. Maybe we have to be a nickel and dime offence, until we can graduate to a sophisticated CFL offence. Disguise? Missing in action. Rollouts? Missing in action.

#6 Taylor Altilio, in over his head.

#7 David Braley. Maybe he is #1 in the blame game.

No hate on for any of these people. Their jobs are horrendosly challenging. The stress is at the max. But it is a business where you have to win, and you have to entertain. Our team fails in every respect. The players put their bodies at risk, even in losing. But the commitment, the effort, and the determination to succeed are not there.

Only a fool would now pay what Braley is asking for his so called football team.
