That game was so frustrating to watch, I can barely even enjoy the fact we won.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

an ugly win is still a win

notice how Harris always seems to break a long run late in the fourth in a close game

Some quick impressions. After I start breathing again.

Joey is for real.

This is the Bombers from last year, and then some. Great receiving talent. Great. Great defence.

Highly motivated tonight.

Once again a team brought its ultra A game against the Lions. And once again, in all kinds of adversity, the Lions prevail.

This one has to hurt for the Bombers. Ha ha

I have to think that Jacques has not really put together great game plans against the all out blitzing we have been facing. It is ridiculous the pressure Lulay is under. And then he gets a big scattershot. But I would not doubt him, not for one minute. But we need better anti blitz packages. The Bombers lined up 9 at the line at times, and our O Line flinched.

Andrew Harris

Travis Lulay

Geroy Simon

Shawn Gore

Jabar Westerman  Chintzy call on the Roughing, but he should have stopped or avoided.

McCallum might be back on his game.

D

Didn't like to see Stubler go to 3 man line on Peg's tieing drive.

Frustrating game. And that is what nasty D can do for you. Keep you in the game.

I think Peg has squandered its amazing talent for much of this year.

I would take Hefney, Suber or Sears for Phillips right now. Please. The Bombers would laugh at such a trade.

Geroy. When it counted most. Hefney held him all night. No calls.

Time for some holding calls on the O lines facing our D too.

Another day at the office for Adam Bighill.

Uglyyyyyyyyyyy win. But we will take it.
...........

No one could have complained if the time keeper had let the clock run out. It looked like the clock stopped fast. We mis managed that situation. I think Gore got down on purpose. He is a very smart player.

Super intense game. Super intense. The CFL is so good it is crazy right now. Nothing like it.

2 points in the standings which is all that matters, but we really need to get our Offence going.

He did try to avoid it. He had his head up and was holding his hands out straight in front of him while Elliott saw him holding back and stepped back himself. The call was completely bogus.

The kind of game I expected, but certainly didn't want.

I thought we might wear the Bombers down. Didn't happen. They have a lot of pride too.

Joey Elliott is for real. But we did slow him down from his last game.

Just two nasty defences taking the O out of the game. The Bombers called a defensive that seemed even more aggressive than Stubler's. They had to gamble and for the most part it paid off.

They also gambled with the overly aggressive hands on pass blocking. The officials were in over their heads. They called some phantom stuff and let some real stuff go. As happens so often if one team, the Bombers, push the limits on penalties, the refs even it out at the end. We suffered for that. And it almost let the Bombers steal one. And then we stole it back. Too freaking bad, Bombers.
.........

No complaints. Super exciting game. Unreal in fact. I would say it is a game for the ages. Amazing.

Travis Lulay is a guy you want beside you in the fox hole. As is Andrew Harris. As are so many of our guys.

Kudos to Benny. And to Stubler. Jacques IMO needs to tweak some stuff to stop the all out blitzing we are facing. Travis has about 1.3 seconds to make a read, and then dodge for his life.

What a Jekyll & Hyde second half.

We had seven offensive series.

On the first five we went

punt,
punt,
punt,
pick,
pick

with one lonely first down and moved the ball a measly 17 yards. I seriously thought the game was lost at that point.

Then on the last two we scored the TD & GWFG and moved the ball a combined 116.

Lulay has been under alot of pressure this year because teams have been bringing the all out blitz. We seem to have troubles countering the blitzes.

Another ugly win, but a win is a win, especially with your best player suspended, and on the road in Winnipeg.

And I say BEST PLAYER for Mitchell because he is...everyone, including Joe, has to stop propping up Lulay and allow him to stand on his own...and that is VERY mediocre to say the least. Yes, Travis made his 2 best throws of the night on the last drive, which is clutch, but two 4th quarter INTs and a legit shot at 4 INTs on the night, and we MUST call it what it is...DISCONCERTING TO SAY THE LEAST.

His is NOT the MOP of the league...the not the Western Division, not the Lions and not the Offence...he is having a VERY MEDIOCRE season and we are 8 games in...Lulay was AWFUL most of the night...he had protection, he had very good play calling, he has outstanding playmakers, and he did not make plays...he constantly threw with POOR MECHANICS...off his back foot...didn't follow through, etc...

But the BIGGEST TREND of Lulay all season is missing WIDE OPEN receivers, often when he has no pressure. Travis' saving grace is that he hasn't turned the ball over much, but tonight that changed, he put the ball at risk at least 6 or 7 times, and was NOT the better of the QBs tonight...he was actually outplayed by a young gamer in Elliot, and that isn't saying much for Lulay.

The fact of the matter is, we have had OLine issues (inside), but they are coming around...he has the 2 best OTs in the league...he has the best RB in the league...he has as good a receiving corp as anyone...and he has the best Defence in the league.

Much of the problems that Lulay is having ARE HIS OWN FAULT...missing guys wide open on 1st and 10 from your own 15 yard line, in a foreign stadium, means that it is going to be uncomfortable on 2nd down...so make the throw on 1st down.

MOPs do NOT look lost in the pocket, even when the pressure is picked up by the line and the backs...but Lulay does...

Is it time to change QBs??? Not at all, as long as Travis rarely turns the ball over, we can continue to win, but let's start calling this what it is...a talented offence hindered by mediocre QB play...as I said, it is 8 games in, and he has been like this all season.

As for the D, another solid effort, but 2 things stood out...why was Stubler rushing only 3, in a deep zone, on 3rd and 10 against a rookie QB??? And what were Dante Marsh and Korey Banks doing when the rookie QB lobbed up a floater that actually landed for a 30+ yard gain with a minute to go??? As good as the D was, again, there were some bizarre calls and plays at crucial times...clearly the officiating (embarrassing to say the least) was an issue, but not all of the time.

At the end of the day, it's a win without Khaliff Mitchell in the lineup for the 2nd consecutive game...Westerman has showed himself to be a player right now, and some clutch plays were made when we had to have them...but anyone who thinks that things are tickety boo with the QBing needs to get some professional help. Open your eyes and call it what it is...MEDIOCRE at best...

Travis MUST get better!
