Is Nicholson still with the Riders? I didn't see him the other night.

Nicolson is on the injured list. He's been bothered by a hamstring injury.

The Lions had the option of activating him to the roster or letting him go to another team. It's not like he left us in the lurch... :roar:
Pretty tough to activate him onto the roster under those circumstances, as what would prevent the next PR guy to make a similar demand if Wally caved into Carter. The inmates won't run the asylum in BC very often, and certainly not when it comes to Wally the GM.

I notice the Lions have added Ebell and Heerspink to the practice roster but they haven't deleted Carter. They now show eight players there, which may be allowed if Harris is exempt as a junior.

If Obie were to claim him he must place him on the Ti-Cats active roster per the CBA.

How has that worked for Nicholson? He dressed for 6 of the 7 games he was on the Lions' roster last year and only 5 of 10 with a Rider team so injury riddled they were starting to wonder if Joey Walters still had some game left. About the only thing that has changed for Nicholson is the colour of paint on the splinters he's picking up. Now he finds himself on the extended Rider PR aka the injured list.

Nicholson got some playing time (due to injuries in the Riders receiving corps) last season and flashed some excellent talent IMO in that one game in particular; he wouldn't rate playing time with Wally cause he needs a lot more time to "develop" - and a dropped pass can indicate that along with something about his resume; meanwhile, all sorts of medicore no hands "talents" have rated playing time for Wally - and continue to rate more playing time after they drop balls aplenty don't ya know - Skillern types just have something on their resumes that turns Wally's crank maybe? Wally will have no trouble finding more quality receivers with dime a dozen Roy helping him out though, so fear not  ; stiffs like Nicholson or Carter can collect splinters on other team's benches, while Wally deploys way better "talents"; and back-up NI receivers are a dime a dozen too anyhow - Hetherington and Green can fill the bill for now and imagine what a great receiver "project" Jamall Lee would make once he shows up for the Lions - once their feline bretheren Panthers cut him after realizing it was silly to think of him at tailback - they should have consulted Wally who could have told them his real place was as a receiver project. :roar: Good thing Wally got rid of that too slow stiff Clermont to help upgrade the Lions' corps - really showed last game. :yahoo:

:dizzy: My god does your banging the NI drum ever get old? And did you mean the Clermon that had a whopping 9 yards? Yea with that productivity for the lions instead of the riders, BC just rolls ro victory.

I bet you still believe there are 8 Canadians worthy of a guarunteed roster spot as QB's too.

Slotback Matt Carter, the fifth overall pick in the 2009 college draft from Acadia, left the team on the weekend “for personal reasons,” Buono said. Carter was offered a spot on the practice roster before the start of the season.

“It was a very legitimate personal reason,” Buono said of Carter, who has returned to Mississauga, Ont., where his parents live. “It was a very unselfish thing for him to give up this opportunity. He was one injury away from getting put on the roster.”

The Lions will retain Carter’s CFL rights if he returns to university. If not, other teams can sign him after Dec. 1.
This helps clear up the matter on Carter...thanks Sixbeamers.

Lowell Ullrich adds more details on Carter's reasons for leaving the team:
Carter, by the way, didn't leave the Lions in a huff, as portrayed elsewhere in cyberspace, but owing to a serious illness in his immediate family. Word is he also plans to enroll back at Acadia, which would ensure his avilability. He left on the best of terms with the Lions, who hope he will come back for another shot next season.

Good to hear that he left on good terms.

Better IMO to spend a year at university than being on the Practice Roster. If his talent is sufficient he will make a place for himself in the CFL eventually anyway.

Unusual to have 2 highly regarded young players (Carter and Morencie) in one draft year going back university.

IMO the great development of Greg Hetherington prevented Matt Carter from being on the active roster. Hetherington continues to look very good. Players 6'4" with good hands, fast and non-import are relatively rare.
