Well, it sure seems like Edmonton wants receivers, first Acree, now Kamau but one question....why Butter Fingers Peterson?

Yank in BC will have a difficult time with that kind of signing happening here, with so much more talent available albeit wiht an 'I' beside their CFL name. He fills a void that teh Eskimos are seeking at filling, and without much in the FA market the Esks are having to rattle the botom of the barrel in comparison to years past when they would be able to sign the best FA on the market.

Just be thankful that the Lions can release a better NI in Thelwell than what the Eskimos can sign currently.

:whs: The embarrassment of riches the Lions currently have amongst Canadian receivers is never better illustrated than with a signing like this.

Another element of this is the fact that Peterson is a bit of a "lure", in coaching parlance. He oozes speed and athleticism, and as a result keeps getting opportunities to redeem himself. Think Denis Montana about six years ago...

The consensus over on the Esksfans.com seems to be about 90% WTF?!?!?!?! Why?????????

And yet a number of Bomber fans seem to be quite happy to have a Chris Brazzell on their roster; there has been quite a few of these type receivers re-cycled through the CFL over the past number of years - often fast receivers who make the odd really nice play and show athleticism at times, but, just drop wayyyyy too many passes. Demetrious Bendrops and Wane McGarity come to mind too. You can't teach hands - just as the cliche goes you can't teach speed. A lot of football decision makers though are impressed by measureables and other stuff that often don't mean enough come game time.

Big difference between Brazzell and Peterson. Brazzell usually never had troubles catching the ball if he got his hands on it. Extending his arms out to reach a catchable ball was a another story. Everybody in the stadium notices a dropped pass but the average casual football shmuck in the crowd won't see alligator arms.

You'd think casual football shmuck types wouldn't hold much sway over who gets to play in a CFL offence. We'll see if the trendy CFL decision makers start to show some balance in their receiving corps by playing some more sure-handed yet a bit slower receivers over the Peterson/Brazzell types - not sure most of them have got the memo yet on what a Clermont or Fantuz type can add to an offence; the stop-watch 40 time worshippers will ensure there's still plenty of room for the fast hands of stone types i bet. One speedster with iffy hands - even though you may need the defence stretching type some - is more than enough for a receiving corps IMO.

Quite a few Bomber fans are also unhappy re-signing Brazzell.......but as Hambone wrote, Brazzell usually can catch the ball when it hits him....Petersen on the other hand is 50-50 at best.
I'd love you to say it to my face because you'd only say it once...if you ever had the courage to say it at all!! Blitz, 05/24/2008
