Speaking of the stadium capacity issue, we all know that the Alouettes move into Olympic Stadium for their playoff games and the Grey Cup if they are hosting it. But I wonder if the GC organizers in Montreal have considered using 20,202 seat Percival Molson Memorial Stadium for the Grey Cup?
On a different note, the recent Super Bowl brings back memories of the 1982 Grey Cup in CNE Stadium, dubbed the Rain Bowl. That rainsoaked game provided the inspiration to build Rogers Centre.

ummmm......why would they consider using 20,202Percival Molson when they have a 65,000 seat facility available? Can you say $600 to $700/seat to generate the same revenue?Robbie wrote:Speaking of the stadium capacity issue, we all know that the Alouettes move into Olympic Stadium for their playoff games and the Grey Cup if they are hosting it. Why would they showcase CFL's biggest event in a 20,000 stadium ?Robbie wrote: But I wonder if the GC organizers in Montreal have considered using 20,202 seat Percival Molson Memorial Stadium for the Grey Cup?

Those boyz wuz HARD-CORE!!The 1967 game, played on December 31, 1967 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, remains one of the coldest NFL games on record. The official game-time temperature was -13?F / -25?C, with a wind chill around -48?F / -44?C. The bitter cold overwhelmed Lambeau's new turf heating system, leaving the playing surface hard as a rock and nearly as smooth as ice. The officials were unable to use their whistles after the opening kickoff; the referee blew his metal whistle to signal the start of play and it froze to his lips. For the rest of the game, the officials used their voices to end plays.
Several players, including Dallas defensive tackle Jethro Pugh and Green Bay quarterback Bart Starr, still claim to suffer occasional mild effects of the frostbite they developed that day. The Dallas quarterback, Don Meredith, came down with pneumonia after the game and was hospitalized on his return to Texas. In addition to the effects of the weather, Starr absorbed a lot of punishment from Dallas players during the game; he was sacked eight times.

It's been discussed before that bigger may not necessarily be better and outdoor stadiums have been temporarily expanded for capacity. Since it can be said that mother nature should be a part of football games, why not get creative and see a possible duplicate of the mud, ice, snow, or rain cups? :lol:Hambone wrote:ummmm......why would they consider using 20,202Percival Molson when they have a 65,000 seat facility available? One problem. Molson cannot be temporarily expanded. It sits on a hillside with part of the stadium being enclosed by McGill University buildings. They are planning to add 5000 permanent seats and realistically given where the stadium sits an additional permanent structure with foundations etc is the only way.
