Starting today. Fairbanks to Whitehorse this year. 24 / 7 action and about as exciting as 8 mph can get. At one point there is 200 mile stretch with one stop. Challenging to say the least.

Only 15 entries with a guaranteed purse of $100,000. They don't do it for the money.

Considered more gruelling than next months Iditarod because of the distance between checkpoints, often one musher will run the Quest and their partner uses the same team for the Iditarod. It wasn't long ago that it came down to 30 secs for the win after almost ten days. Imagine the effort extended.

Top names to watch will be Alan Moore and Brent Sass. Michelle Phillips is one of the top female mushers. The dogs are the athletes and stars of the show.

A bit hard to follow given the remote nature of the race but satellite tracking and daily updates help. Check it out at Yukon Quest . com.

Quite the race to be sure. Strategy, pace, weather all play a huge role in this contest. Amazing that the purse is only 100k. Probably cost that much in equipment and dog food over the course of a year.
Tell me how long must a fan be strong? Ans. Always.

Leaders are into Dawson for the mandatory 36 hr layover. Michelle Phillips hanging tough in 2nd place. 4 teams within 6 hrs. We'll see what the second half brings.

Brent Sass should be departing Dawson checkpoint around 6:00 pm today. Averaging over 100 miles per day.

Today is the day.

Michelle Phillips just coming off three hours rest is ten miles back of Brent Sass at mile 830 who is already ten hours into his run and will need to rest soon. Leaders are 50 miles out of Braeburn checkpoint and required to take a mandatory eight hours before going on to Whitehorse. Phillips is Canadian. Shaping up to be very close.

No worries about PETA. All kinds of vets involved.
