A pretty poor effort all around for the Seahawks in LA. Their offense just didn't click, and they lost Rashaad Penny for the season in the bargain. The O-line play was weak, with Russell Wilson being sacked 5 times, and, for some reason the receivers couldn't beat man coverage and get some separation, and they dropped some passes. Granted that the Rams have a very good secondary, particularly now with shutdown corner Jalen Ramsey, but the Seahawks' passing game should have been better.

The O-line problems that have plagued the Seahawks for years now were particularly evident last night. They have a massive O-line, particularly on the right side with D.J. Fluker at 6-5, 345 lbs. and Germain Ifedi at 6-6, 330 lbs., but the latter's poor footwork and lack of technique were really on display. I hope this is an area that gets real attention in the off-season.

They play the Panthers next Sunday in Charlotte, and that's a game they should win. Pete Carroll's teams seldom have two bad games in a row, so we can hope for a rebound.

Seahawks rebound and avenge their road playoff loss in Carolina almost four years ago in January 2016 when the Panthers jumped out to a huge 31-0 lead before clinging on to a 31-24 lead. This time, it was the Seahawks who had a comfortable 30-10 lead in the fourth quarter before the Panthers mounted a comeback that came just short at 30-24. Of course, it's a different team with Cam Newton on the bench with his many injuries over the last two years.

It's always exciting but very risky when you see a non-quarterback attempt to make a pass, and this time the risk worked against the Seahawks as WR Josh Gordon's long pass attempt resulted in an interception. Chris Carson did a good job replacing Rashaad Penny in running back with his two touchdowns.

-----------
After winning in the last seconds last week over the Saints, the 49ers lose to the lowly Falcons in the last seconds at home so the Seahawks are back in the NFC west. When it comes to division leaders, it's always complicated as to which team would benefit - to become the division leader or the conference leader. The Saints will likely win tomorrow on Monday night football and they hold tiebreaker as they won the earlier game between the two teams. Coincidentally and ironically, the same Falcons were one of the few times to have beaten the Saints this season.

And the LA Rams who were so dominant last week against the Seahawks were completely demolished by the Cowboys this week.

Another nail-biter finish for the Seahawks that shouldn't have been, after they had built up a three-possession lead, 30-10, in the 4th quarter. The injuries on defense really hurt the 'Hawks, with four starters out for the whole game, and two more--Diggs and Wagner--out in the 4th quarter. They basically played much of the second half with backups. Not surprisingly, they went into a soft zone late in the 4th quarter and were lucky to escape with a win.

Chris Carson was huge for the Seahawks, rushing for 133 yards with a 5.5 yds./carry average. The replacements for the injured Rashaad Penny--C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer--hardly registered, with something like 22 yards between them. Disappointing re Prosise, who hasn't lived up to his promise from a couple of seasons back.

The big news today concerning the Seahawks is the indefinite suspension of WR Josh Gordon for both substance abuse and PED violations. This is Gordon's 5th suspension. I'm sure the Seahawks knew that Gordon was a risk when they took him off waivers, but this is a sad development, as he seemed to be fitting into the team's offense (although being used sparingly) and has true deep-threat talent (as we saw on his 58-yard reception yesterday). From all we've seen of Gordon over the last 7-8 years, he seems to have some mental-health issues along with an inability to stay off drugs. One has to wonder whether he'll get another chance in the NFL.

The Seahawks are in the playoffs now, but I have trouble seeing them claiming either the No. 1 or 2 seeds in the NFC. They are dealing with a lot of key injuries, and it will remain to be seen how many of the 6 defensive starters they can get back for the last two games of the regular season. The offense may have to carry the 'Hawks for the next little while--as they did at the beginning of the season.
......................................................................................................................................................

The two games you mentioned, Robbie--Falcons at 49ers and Rams at Cowboys--were big surprises. The last-second Falcons victory was a little flukey to say the least and must have completely devastated Niner fans. The poor showing of the Rams in Dallas surprised me. The earlier talk about Todd Gurley's possible arthritic knee may be true; he had only 20 yards on 11 carries yesterday. Of course, the lousy performance of his O-line contributed a lot to that. The Rams were expected to be the top team in the NFC again this season, after last year's performance, but they seem to have regressed. The ground game is a big part of this, but I'm not convinced that Jared Goff is an elite QB.

Only in the nfl do they review a stoppage at the one inch line in the Frisco game. I'm sure I've seen plays in the last two minutes where it was close to a touchdown but no review. Atlanta was out of challenges but some reason it was reviewed when the call on the field was fourth down. I'm happy though for Seattle BB

One more thing if Seattle wins next week and San Fran loses. What happen in the last week if Frisco wins. They have identical records 12 and 4 and a victory head to head. Anyone? Thnx BB

I believe it's point differential. Or how about if there is a three way tie between the Seahawks, 49ers, and Saints with identical records. Then what is the tiebreaker? So far this season, Saints beat the Seahawks, Seahawks beat the 49ers, 49ers beat the Saints (rocks, paper, scissors? :dizzy: ). Back in 2014, the Seahawks, Cowboys, and Packers all had 12-4 records but the Seahawks was placed first in the NFC conference with the best conference record.

Got this from Pro Football Talk:

Seahawks (11-3): The Seahawks have clinched a playoff berth. They’ll win the NFC West with a win over the 49ers in Week 17. The Seahawks will be the No. 1 seed with two wins (vs. Cardinals, vs. 49ers) and either one Saints loss or two Packers wins.

49ers (11-3): The 49ers have clinched a playoff berth. With two wins (vs. Rams, at Seahawks), the 49ers would seal the NFC West and the No. 1 seed. If the 49ers lose to the Rams and the Seahawks beat the Cardinals, the 49ers would win the NFC West if they secure the strength of victory tiebreaker, which currently favors the 49ers.

So it appears that in the event that the Seahawks win next week and the 49ers lose, if the 49ers beat the Seahawks in Week 17 (so that both teams end up 12-4), the 49ers would win the NFC West on the basis of the strength of victory tiebreaker. This would drop the Seahawks down to the #5 seed and would mean that the Seahawks would play the #4 seed (either the Cowboys or Eagles) in the wildcard round.

Edit. Just discovered the following that addresses the outcome BB raised ('Hawks win next week, and 49ers lose next week, with the 49ers beating the Seahawks in Week 17). Holy Moses, it's complicated!

I ran across this piece on Russell Wilson by Mike Freeman in Bleacher Report. It details Wilson's mental approach and how he has become one of the best QBs in NFL history. Wilson's physical tools are well-known, and he is considered by many to be the best deep-ball passer in the league. This piece gets into his mental preparation and how it keeps him at his peak during games.

Thnx for the heads up. Makes sense I think. Just wondering why the province sports page has Seattle second this week and a few weeks ago when they were even with SF. It's a moot point but odd. BB

Well, I guess things couldn't be much worse for the Seahawks after yesterday's loss to the Cardinals. I had to miss the game--what with Christmas events, etc.--but I gather it was something of a horror show. Not that losing the game was such a big deal, but their two best RBs went down and are now out for the season with serious injuries--fractured hip for Carson and broken arm for Prosise. They're now down to the last man standing--6th-round rookie Travis Homer at RB. And Josh Gordon now suspended. Expect to see Schneider frantically manning the phones for replacements. Rumor has it that Marshawn Lynch is in town to talk about stepping in.

It's not just the RBs, though. Starting LT, Duane Brown, is out for season-ending surgery, and starting LG, Mike Iupati, went out yesterday. So the offense is really decimated. But the defense is also missing some key players: Jadeveon Clowney, Quandre Diggs, and Shaquill Griffin. And Al Woods suspended 4 games for PED violations. So four starters now out on D.

It's hard to see the Seahawks winning any more games with the situation as it currently is. They'll have their hands full with the 49ers next Sunday night in a game the Niners will be jacked up for--to win the division. And then their next game will most likely be a wild-card playoff game the following week against either the winner of the NFC-E or NFC-N. Hard to see them travelling to the east and winning.

Sad times for the Emerald City, but they have built a solid foundation this season for the future, and with a good off-season, they should be tough again in 2020.

No more rumors.
It's official: THE BEAST MODE HAS RETURNED!

In additional, fellow RB who was also part of the 2014 Super Bowl team, Robert Turbin, will be returning as well. :good:

With the wins by the Saints and Packers, Seahawks won't finish 1st or 2nd in the NFC and won't get a bye. So it's either Seahawks hosting the Vikings or going to play in Philadelphia in the first round.

Given the fact that the Seahawks has a better road record this season and handled the Eagles slightly better than the Vikings, maybe going on the road isn't too bad after all.

Seahawks loses the NFC west by mere inches and by bad clock management by taking a delay of game i the crucial moments. It would have been great had Beast Mode scored a division TD.

Off to Philadelphia. Let's see if they can repeat their performance a few weeks ago. If they pull through, then it's off for a huge challenge in New Orleans.
