Anyone else find Seahawks going for two point convert at the end of the game puzzling. They were up by 4 a convert would make it a 5 point advantage. Washington would score so now they are down by 2. A field goal would of won it. I know their kicker was terrible. Same guy who missed in Minny a two years ago. Thnx BB
Pete Carroll felt that if they got the two-point conversion then they would have had a 6-point lead. Then if the Redskins got a touchdown (which they did) then there's always a possibility that they would miss the regular conversion so that it will still be a tie game.
I thought of that to. But their first try at two points almost backfired and Washingtons kicker was no Walsh. BB

So that's why they tried a different kind of passing play on the second attempt - one that's farther in in the end zone so that it's more difficult to intercept and it if was, it could be better defended.

Yesterday's Seahawks game was just plain hard to watch. A self-inflicted schmozzle. The offense racked up 437 total yards to only 244 for Washington, and the ground game actually came alive with 148 yards on the ground (v. 51 for Washington), although Russell Wilson accounted to about half that total. It was expected that they would miss all-pro Earl Thomas, but Washington had many more injuries coming into the game than did the 'Hawks. Despite the numbers, the Seahawks continually shot themselves in the foot.

A terrible performance by Blair Walsh missing all three FGs, and 16 penalties, along with the interceptions, just killed any momentum for the Seahawks. Pete Carroll has to be furious--which is a rare mood for Carroll--with the sloppy performance yesterday.

They have a very short week to prepare for Arizona on Thursday night in Arizona. Seems unlikely that Thomas will be back, but the word is that C. J. Prosise will return. Eddie Lacy strained his groin yesterday and couldn't finish the game, so I doubt he'll be in action on Thursday. Thomas Rawls ran well, however, and with Prosise back, they may be OK in the ground game.

Carroll has to get the penalty problem solved. And the supposedly vaunted defense needs to play better. They're getting burned deep too often, and yesterday, it killed them in the final minutes of the game. The Seahawks don't look much like a title contender at this point....

Seahawks win in Arizona but at a huge price....Richard Sherman ruptures his Achilles' tendon and will be out for the rest of the season. :sigh: :surrender: No Super Bowl this season without him? :bawl:

You're right, Robbie about Sherman's season-ending injury being a huge loss for the Seahawks. They do have some decent backup corners, but none with Sherman's talent. When I heard about this, I wondered whether it was wise for Sherman to have been playing last night. He had been nursing a sore Achilles and was held out of practice early this week.

And Sherman wasn't the only starter to go down last night; it seemed like they lost 5-6 guys during the game. One, in particular--new LT Duane Brown--was particularly noticeable by his absence after going off with a sprained ankle. His replacement, Matt Tobin, was just atrocious, getting beat on just about every play, particularly by OLB extraordinaire Chandler Jones, who just basically had his way with Tobin. With all the Seahawks' injuries, they were fortunate to win, although it has to be noted that the Cardinals ---particularly the offense--have really lost much of any offensive effectiveness they had with the loss of starting QB Carson Palmer. His backup, Drew Stanton, was pretty awful last night, missing his receivers often (although there were some dropped passes too) and failing to consistently move the offense down the field, en route to a 51% completion percentage for the game. If it hadn't been for all the penalties (again) against the Seahawks--12 last night--the Cardinals would have had 5 or 6 fewer first downs (6 of their first downs came via Seahawks penalties), and would, I think, have lost by a more lopsided score.

It was interesting to see the Seahawks' game plan on defense. It seemed clear that the plan was to absolutely shut down the running game from Pro Bowl RB Adrian Peterson (he had only 29 yards on 21 carries) and to force the Cardinals to beat them through the air, something that the Seahawks believed would not be possible with Drew Stanton. This plan turned out to be successful for the 'Hawks.

The Seahawks will now have an 11 day break before their next game--a Monday nighter at the CLink. They'll need this longer-than-usual layoff to get at least some of their injured guys back and to figure out how best to replace Sherman at left corner. The most probable plan, re the loss of Sherman, at least at this point, would seem to be Jeremy Lane on the outside (opposite impressive rookie Shaquill Griffin), with Justin Coleman (who has played pretty well) as their nickel corner. One other option, when Earl Thomas returns, would be to go with their "big safety" secondary with Bradley McDougald complementing Thomas and Kam Chancellor as a second free safety. One other possibility would be the return of DeShawn Shead, last year's starter opposite Sherman, in the next several weeks. According to reports, he's close to returning, albeit with quite a bit of rust.

I have to agree that it's next to impossible to see the Seahawks getting to the Super Bowl this year. Pete Carroll is a great coach, but the team hasn't seemed SB caliber this season. In the NFC, the Eagles look to be clearly above the rest of the conference, and at the halfway point of the season, appear to be best overall, NFC + AFC.

Edit. Just wanted add a couple of things.

First the box score:

And second, Russell Wilson doing just a jaw-dropping scramble to get the pass to Doug Baldwin for a 54-yard pass play. This is just pure athleticism. First click on the arrowhead and then click on: Watch on YouTube

Richard Sherman is out for the season, and now Kam Chancellor will likely be out too from a neck injury.
The the Seahawks defence depleted now, then no way the team can advance too far in the playoffs assuming they make it to the playoffs. :bang:

Right, Robbie. Just saw that about Chancellor today. Two of the Seahawks' starting Legion of Boom players now out for the season. This will badly impact what was a very good defense. I think it's now doubtful that the 'Hawks will make the playoffs, and, if they do, they won't go far. Too many good (and intact) NFC teams--Rams, Vikings, Eagles, Falcons, Panthers....

On the one hand, Maas has been criticized big time for making a field goal instead going for a touchdown in the late stages of the WDF.

And on the other end of spectrum, Pete Carroll can be criticized as well by attempting a play fake at the late stages of the second quarter instead of taking 3 points, which in the end became the difference in losing the game and sending the game into overtime.

Blair Walsh 52-yard field goal miss this time can be slightly more forgivable than the chip shot he missed in the playoffs as a Viking at least it went straight down the middle but was short. However, more elite kickers can successfully make a 52-yard field goal without coming short.....and I guess Walsh hasn't proven himself and to others that he's an elite kicker.

Was Wilson supposed to score on that play. Hes not the fastest. And even if he gets closer time would of expired. Pete has some splaining to do. BB

Actually, Luke Willson is very fast. He ran a 4.51 40 at the combine, faster than many WRs.

Unfortunately, I missed the entire game, but picked up the details today. The Seahawks' chances to make the playoffs are now hanging by a thread....

Despite the Seahawks win in San Francisco, they were playing against a team with a very bad record this season. It's confirmed that Kam Chancellor is out for the rest of the season. :bang:
