11 time all star.

Wore the Expos hat to the Hall of Fame.

My recollection is that he was an excellent player. Seemed to be a great role model.

To some people, he seemed too goody goody. Always cheerful. LOL Isn't it crazy when fans want more "edge" with their favourite players?

God Bless, Gary Carter. Off to a better place now.

Reluctantly though. Gary Carter wanted his induction plaque to depict him wearing a Mets cap but the Hall of Fame overruled and decided that his plaque would instead show him with an Expos cap.

To make him happy though, at least he has a second plaque in which he is wearing his Mets cap for his New York Mets Hall of Fame induction.

While I'm sure his most exciting moment in his career would definitely be winning the 1986 World Series, his second-best moments would be winning the 1981 and 1984 All-Star game MVP's. The attachment is the presentation of his trophy after the 1981 MLB all-star game.

He jokingly wanted a half expos half mets cap on the plaque. When he left montreal as a free agent that was the beginning of the expos decline. He was lucky enough to accomplish in New York in 1986 what had nearly eluded him in 1981. His ambition was to one day become a major league coach and it never panned out. Something at the Olympic Park in Montreal will be renamed in his honor.

Actually Gary Carter was traded to the New York Mets on December 10, 1984 for Mike Fitzgerald, Herm Winningham, Hubie Brooks and Floyd Youmanns.

There’s talk about renaming a metro stop in honour of him.

The Montreal Canadiens had previously honoured Carter along with the other retired-numbered Expos by raising that banner on the rafters of the Bell Center.

And unlike many relocated professional sports teams such as the Colorado Avalanche and their Pepsi Center that don't give a damn about their ancestry by un-retiring the numbers of the honoured players of the Quebec Nordiques, the Washington Nationals are a great and notable exception by honouring Gary Carter and Andre Dawson by putting them on to the Ring of Honor at Nationals Park. :beauty:

Sorry. You're right about the trade. The reason he got traded was so that the expos got something in return Before he could become a free agent if I'm not mistaken. The players the expos got weren't bad but none could replace the Kid.

I visited Nationals Park and it is gorgeous.

Last night the Habs did a tribute to Carter at the game. To me it's a slap in the face of the city of Montreal for not keeping its baseball team. We don't even have anything equivalent to Nat Bailey park which I twice attended or a Vancouver C's team.

I'm not sure about a Metro renaming though it would be awesome. Maybe a bronze statue like Jackie Robonson presently has.
