Re: Western Final Nov.13: BC at Winnipeg
Lions were completely dominated from start to finish, yet somehow had a chance at the end. Not sure what happened on that final drive but it was painfully obvious the Lions weren't prepared for the situation. Still, all in all, this was the most fun year for Lions' fans in a long time. I think that ...

Re: Western Final Nov.13: BC at Winnipeg
I certainly can't remember any time under Wally's long tenure here in BC where as many as four starters were injured at some point of the season and lost their spot to a back-up once they were healthy enough to return. A healthy Obum Gwacham becomes the 4th with Sione Teuhema getting the nod for th...

Re: WSF Calgary vs BC Nov 6
MaxLion, didn't you post that Dave Dickenson said that it wasn't that he didn't call run plays but the QB audibled away from the run based on what he was seeing from the Lions? I might have read that on 3 Down Nation. I interpreted this to mean that Dickenson a former QB gives his QBs have more fre...

Re: WSF Calgary vs BC Nov 6
Somewhere in the back of their minds, there may have been a thought about game planning that wasn't what the Lions would be expecting. Maybe they thought the Lions would be planning for a running attack and thus decided to go with a passing emphasis. Probably not what happened but I have seen that ...

Re: WSF Calgary vs BC Nov 6
Both Lions and Stamps took high risk high reward gambles on 3rd down. Lions executed and coaches were lauded. Stamps failed to execute and coaches were criticized. Stamps player missed a block. Sometimes there's a fine line between success and failure. Hard to definitively pin the blame on coaches o...

Re: Lion all-stars
The low number of all stars from BC may be due to inopportune injuries and a "do it by committee" approach. Gwacham, Roarke, and Whitehead are all likely all stars if not for injury. We have 3 standout Canadian linebackers, but they share two positions. Similarly on d-line, we have a bunch...

Re: Lions vs Elks Oct 21
In my view, Cornelius is a legit starting qb in the league as it is now. Not top shelf but in the same league as Maier, Evans and others. Elizondo for all of his shortcomings as a head coach made an astute choice in bringing him in and giving him an opportunity. As for Tre Ford, I would put him well...

Re: Lions vs. Bombers Oct. 15, 2022
My final comment on this: The note under the illegal participation rule seems determinative to me. It is illegal for a player of either team to go out of bounds, without contact with an opponent, and to reach back into or re-enter the field of play to touch or recover a loose ball. Note: When the ba...

Re: Lions vs. Bombers Oct. 15, 2022
The NFL has the following rule: ARTICLE 3. BALL OUT OF BOUNDS. Item 1. Ball in Player Possession. A ball that is in player possession is out of bounds when the runner is out of bounds, or when the ball touches a boundary line or anything that is on or outside such line, except another player or an o...

Re: Lions vs. Bombers Oct. 15, 2022
I can't help but think that the refs miffed this for the simple reason that it makes no sense that a player could touch the ball after deliberately going out of bounds and that the other team would get significant penalty as a result.

Re: Lions vs. Bombers Oct. 15, 2022
Trying to figure this out... The last Bomber kickoff is not shown on the game recap on cfl.ca or on TSN highlights. The play is summarized on cfl.ca as follows: (01:06) M. LIEGGHIO Kickoff (69 yds), Ball Out of Bounds, Penalty: Illegal Kickoff called on Winnipeg (M. LIEGGHIO) (10 yds.) - Enforced Fr...

Re: Lions vs. Bombers Oct. 15, 2022
One thing I didn't understand was the illegal kickoff call at the end of the game. For some reason, the TSN camera focussed on one Bomber running down the field. Then Terry Williams picked up the ball with one foot out of bounds, and somehow the Lions got the ball at their 50. JC Abbott's column ref...

Re: Lions vs. Bombers Oct. 15, 2022
Bottom line is that they needed to win and they did. Adams wasn't very good but the defense and special teams and run game came through. Basically it was a game of backups so not very predictive of future results but we needed the points to keep ahead of Calgary. I thought it was a pretty entertaini...

Re: Next year
Our success this year was largely due to having a superstar Canadian quarterback who played for peanuts, a situation that is unlikely to recur next year or ever again. Who knows? I think that Campbell, McEvoy and Rigmaiden are as good a management team as any in the CFL, so success is possible. That...

Re: Lions at Argos Oct. 8, 2022
Sayles is fast and a good tackler, but when it comes to covering the receiver, he seems to be the weak link. Adams reminds me of Fajardo. Great runner, decent arm, but has problems reading defences and gets flustered under pressure. Right now, the qb depth in the CFL is so weak that he is probably s...
