Re: CFL Draft - Review of the Lions' Picks

No signing bonus = TC fodder Soooooo......Stefan Logan = TC fodder. In this day and age I think the old adage of TC fodder has become a thing of the past. Bonus or not, be it NFL or CFL, teams will not waste time and money on bringing a player to their main camp if they don't see something there th...

Re: Reported trade..........

Tyrone Williams (Western) was drafted in the NFL by the Cardinals and ended up making the Cowboys roster for a couple of seasons, before coming back to the CFL and playing for the Stamps & Argos. And Jerome Pathon - CIS rookie of the year at Acadia - before he went on to US college ball - had a...

Re: Reported trade..........

[Not so sure that having Watkins on the Esks radar is a positive. Out of curiosity, are there any real CIS receivers that have made the jump to the NFL level? True dat re: Esks. The only one who springs to mind immediately is Samuel Giguere who joined the Colts last year. He was on the pract...

Re: CFL Draft - Review of the Lions' Picks

All in all I think BC did an excellent job today. As detailed in another thread I think Watkin's less than ideal NFL tackle size and age will make him much less of an NFL risk than some think. My gut feel is he will be in BC by Labour Day 2011 at the latest. Gore might be an NFL risk too, but still ...

Re: Reported trade..........

[Still ended up with Gore at any rate, looks like the Lions calculated that move well in the end. However until we find a roster spot for both Watkins and Gore, the Lions 2010 draft will be available for much debate. Sounds like they were ready to take Gore at #4 but from monitoring his progress in...

Re: CFL Draft - Lions Take Danny Watkins #4

What a telling stat revealed on the Eskimo's draft history, only Braidwood and that kicker left in the league, dismal at best. As for Borhot, without anything to go on other than the footage the CFL provides of him, he looks way too upright a runner/tackler to provide much in the CFL. He will have ...

Re: CFL Draft - Lions Take Danny Watkins #4

There was a combination of comments from the panel re: Watkins that lead me to believe he is a fairly safe pick vis a vis NFL flight risk. He may get a crack at the NFL next year but I think he will be a longshot. Firstly he's playing tackle but is only 6'4", a size looked upon as less than ide...

Re: Reported trade..........

I don't mind it. If by flipping 3 for 4 you still get the player you want why not upgrade farther down in the draft. Now that they've taken Watkins I think that proves that out. They knew Watkins would be available at 3 or 4 and I think that was the player they wanted with their first selection prob...

Re: Old BC Lions AP articles courtesy of St. Petersburg Times

Kinda gotta chuckle at a couple of them. "Unknown" Johnny Musso. Tell that to anyone from Alabama where the "Italian Stallion" was a Crimson Tide legend. Landing Musso was a bit of a coup for the Lions as he was expected to be a very high NFL draft pick that year. Harold Nunsperg...

Re: Empire Field construction update: April 7, 2010

Why not keep the thing after this year? It would be great for high school football and UBC and SFU games. Junior football, community football, et cetera. I'd hazard a guess that Pavco wouldn't be able to keep it because they don't own any of it. I'd hazard a guess everything at Tempire is being con...

Re: May 3rd - D-D-D-Day

I like to remenisce fondly of those earlier days when 50000+ showed up for regular season games particularly against the Bombers. Forget about the Stamps, Esks and Riders. In those days it was visits from the Bombers that really got the Dome rocking.

May 3rd - D-D-D-Day

Deflate Da Dome Day. Apparently the plug gets pulled on the fans at 10:00am May 3 and the big puffy pillow that has graced the False Creek waterfront for 27 years will slowly fade away from sight.

Re: CFL Draft, Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

The Draft is an exercise in risk management for any team considering a player who already has accepted a tryout or contract or still has eligibility. There are other factors that make the risk assessment different for each team. Existing depth or number of picks available are big factors and differ ...

If you go into CFL.ca and look under SCHEDULE you'll see an option for US Broadcasts. It hasn't been updated yet for the 2010 season but at some point it will provide a list of available services.

Re: CFL Draft, Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I don't see this sudden NFL interest in CIS kids as anything more than a reflection of the improvement in the level of talent that is coming out of those programs. The game continues to grow at the high school and minor levels not only in terms of participation but also in terms of coaching and reso...
