Re: 2023-24 NFL/Seahawks Season Thread

What I'd say has been worse as opposed to better in the NFL in recent years is the Pro Bowl. Starting 2023, it is now a non-contact flag football game.

I do miss the old AFC vs. NFC games in which the players actually took it seriously.

Carl Weathers (Jan. 14, 1948 – Feb. 1, 2024)

While forever remembered as an actor playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky film series, we shouldn't forget that he was also a BC Lion for three seasons from 1971-73. Re: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks/NHL Season Thread

Congratulations to Elias Pettersson for being selected one of the stars for January 2024! :rockin:

Canucks trade Andrei Kuzmenko to the Calgary Flames for Elias Lindholm. Let's hope this trade will be the missing link to the purrfect season. :cr:

Re: 2023-24 NFL/Seahawks Season Thread

Looks as if Mike Macdonald will be the Seahawks' next head coach. He'll be the youngest head coach in the NFL at 36, and is something of a defensive wunderkind. I think this will make many 'Hawks' fans happy. Mike Macdonald is exactly half the age of the coach he replaced the 72-year old Pete Carro...

Re: Official Olympic Discussion Thread

Yet another example in which the results have been changed long after the event, Russia's Kamila Valieva was disqualified from the 2022 Olympics. And as such in the Team Figure Skating event, the original Russia team wo placed first will be disqualified as well. Original silver medalists USA will be...

Re: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks/NHL Season Thread

To honour the Lunar New Year, a new design for the Canucks logo referencing the Year of the Dragon.
Although the league does not allow such theme-based uniforms anymore.

Re: 2023-24 NFL/Seahawks Season Thread

AFC Championship: Kansas City Chiefs defence played superb in limiting the Baltimore Ravens' offence to just 7 points for most of the game and forced a pair crucial turnovers just when Baltimore was threatening to score. And Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offence were much more successful in getting...

Re: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks/NHL Season Thread

I don't know how they will fare in the playoffs as that kind of game is of a different sort but they have been enjoyable to watch and it has been fun watching all the experts in the league slowly become believers in a team that much wasn't expected of at the beginning of the year. And let's just ho...

Re: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks/NHL Season Thread

The Canucks are heading into the all-star break with a 11-game points streak with a record 9-0-2 since their last regulation loss. Great comeback from 3 goal deficit to win in OT led by Brock Boeser hat trick. Good luck to Boeser, Demko, Hughes, Miller, and Pettersson along with coach Rick Tocchet i...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

I still don't get Colorado retiring Ray Bourque's #77. He played over 20-3/4 seasons in Boston before finishing the last 1-1/4 with Colarado to finally get a ring. That's an excellent example which I was going to bring up as well. I suppose there were two reasons. First as an way to celebrate their...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

The topic of comparing CFL stadiums was mentioned before in my CFL Stadiums thread: https://www.lionbackers.com/bc_lions/viewtopic.php?t=14142 But I'll give an update with help from https://www.stadiumjourney.com/cfl Just like how different teams have their own rules and policy on which players shou...

Re: 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Thread

Donald Trump wins the New Hampshire primary.

Nikki Haley said that she will stay in the race until Super Tuesday on March 5. But we'll see if she will keep that word especially if she doesn't win on February 8 with the Nevada and Virgin Islands caucuses.

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

These are the numbers and their players that have been honoured by the Elks and at 35, that's a heck of a lot more than the Lions 10 on their own Ring of Honour. Also on the contrary, despite their long history the Calgary Stampeders only have 7 players with retired numbers: https://www.stampeders....

That is actually my quote, not Hambone's.
