Re: Empire Field construction update: April 7, 2010

Why not keep the thing after this year? It would be great for high school football and UBC and SFU games. Junior football, community football, et cetera. I'd hazard a guess that Pavco wouldn't be able to keep it because they don't own any of it. I'd hazard a guess everything at Tempire is being con...

Re: May 3rd - D-D-D-Day

I like to remenisce fondly of those earlier days when 50000+ showed up for regular season games particularly against the Bombers. Forget about the Stamps, Esks and Riders. In those days it was visits from the Bombers that really got the Dome rocking.

May 3rd - D-D-D-Day

Deflate Da Dome Day. Apparently the plug gets pulled on the fans at 10:00am May 3 and the big puffy pillow that has graced the False Creek waterfront for 27 years will slowly fade away from sight.

Re: CFL Draft, Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

The Draft is an exercise in risk management for any team considering a player who already has accepted a tryout or contract or still has eligibility. There are other factors that make the risk assessment different for each team. Existing depth or number of picks available are big factors and differ ...

If you go into CFL.ca and look under SCHEDULE you'll see an option for US Broadcasts. It hasn't been updated yet for the 2010 season but at some point it will provide a list of available services.

Re: CFL Draft, Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I don't see this sudden NFL interest in CIS kids as anything more than a reflection of the improvement in the level of talent that is coming out of those programs. The game continues to grow at the high school and minor levels not only in terms of participation but also in terms of coaching and reso...

Re: Empire Field construction update: April 7, 2010

As an Empire rookie, how are the seagulls? I never saw a game at the old Empire. I know that seagulls and pigeons seem to lurk around large groups of people to score chances for food. I don't remember having any bird bombs hit me at the various soccer games I've seen at the outdoor stadium @ Swanga...

Re: NFL Draft re Foley, Mallett, Lumbala, RGM - Mike Beamish

Usually NCAA Canadians get CFL drafted after their (redshirt) junior year don't they? It would be guys CFL drafted last year who would be signing NFL OFA deals now. This site shows 6 Canadians they expected to draw interest, 4 from the CIS: http://www.gbnreport.com/canuckreport.htm It just seems li...

Re: NFL Draft re Foley, Mallett, Lumbala, RGM - Mike Beamish

Looks like those are all CIS guys - more than most years. Makes sense that most in that article would be CIS players. Most of the NCAA players who are top-ranked for this year's CFL draft are returning for their final year of NCAA eligibility. They can't be signed by NFL teams until after next year...

Tim Tebow and the Spread Option Offence

Hmm...in that case what about someone like Barrick Nealy? Wasn't he recently released by the Stamps? Although one could point out the fact you said runner AND passer ;) Unless CFL.ca is behind the times (always a possibility) or Nealy was released in the past few hours he's still a Stamp. Calgary o...

Re: Empire Games info

Orangegloves did. Don't get so offended, all I said was that there WAS indeed beds, pubs and eateries in the area. C'mon, the Canucks won cheer up  Also the track will be opening up for Lions games and will be doing some MAJOR stuff for the games. Live music, BEER TENTS, food, etc.. and well ...

Re: Empire Games info

Just to follow up on some of the comments. I think part of the reason there is so little for amenities in the area of Empire is the surrounding demographics. It's an older residential area with likely an older population of families who for the most part have lived in the same house for years. Most ...

Re: Empire Games info

I guess it all depends on what turns your crank after a game So Cal Lion. If you're into a little bit of night life, or hitting a pub/restaurant then I don't think you'll be wanting to pitch your tent anywhere in moderately close proximity to Empire Stadium. Even back in the day when the Lions playe...
