I do think it's fair to slam the SMS right now given for all intents it hasn't taken effect. The cap doesn't start taking effect until the referee blows his whistle, some kicker puts his boot to the ball in the first regular season game of the year and the first nickle of compensation is earned. And...

if you look at a stadium like the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, it sits on a much smaller "footprint", if you will, than BC Place due to the fact that it is not built to accomodate baseball. The Carrier Dome holds 50,000 full, and the fans are literally right on top of the football game. Acco...

Agreed.......it's dangerous territory. My guess with Allan.........when the Stamps went to register the contract, the league office rubber stamped "Approved" across it without reading the fineprint..........doubt that will happen again. The practise of the AFL and the CFL having the same ...

Re: bidding war

Does the CFL just arbitrarily decide which city ought to get the Grey Cup based on fair rotation or is there a bidding war between owners? I was under the impression the owner that makes the best bid gets it. Would David Braley have to outbid someone else? Or is it just given to a team irregardless...

Re: New SMS News.....not very happy

Clipped this tiny blurb out of the Edmonton Sun today, by Jonathon Huntington....thought that this may raise an eyebrow or two. Apparently, teams can be over the cap during the regular season but must be down to the limit by Week 19. So while we sat back on the 06 SMS implimentation, only to have t...

I think you've pretty well proven my point.........if a team wants a player bad enough, they'll include whatever is necessary in the contract to get him to sign.....and that includes no option year if the player demands it. For an import player who believes he may be able to catch on with an NFL te...

I'd bet the farm on Calgary for 2009. With Toronto re-entering the mix the Grand National Drunk seems to be getting close to a full rotation through all cities. With Toronto and Montreal coming up Hamilton (1996) then Calgary (2000) are the CFL cities with the longest stretches without hosting the G...

I still don't understand the "It's basically impossible to sign a "1 year and you're a free agent" contract in the CFL". If the contract terms are for 1 year and both parties agree......then why wouldn't it be possible?. Think about it Lloyd. As long as the option year is part o...

Big difference between Brazzell and Peterson. Brazzell usually never had troubles catching the ball if he got his hands on it. Extending his arms out to reach a catchable ball was a another story. Everybody in the stadium notices a dropped pass but the average casual football shmuck in the crowd won...

That Wally. He's a cagey one.

Apparently Buono has given Hamilton permission to talk to both McKay-Loescher and Thelwell in advance of the Feb.15 free agent deadline. Sneaky. Give 'em a crack to land a new deal with an East Division team before their West Division rivals can get a crack.

There's more rhetoric and inneundo here on this topic than in your average political campaign. 1) BC Place is now accepting bookings for 2012. One would assume at this time next year they'll be accepting bookings for 2013. The nature of the organization many of their events require is such commitmen...

Robbie - any pics available of the Autostade? This "gem" was home for the Alouettes in the 60's and 70's. If you link to the following site and follow links to CFL and past CFL stadiums you can see some pictures and a narrative regarding the Autostade. It seems the Big Owe mercifully repl...

Well you are wrong...... :toss: :pass: :toss: I hope so :cr:[/quote] It's basically impossible to sign a "1 year and you're a free agent" contract in the CFL. If you sign a 1 year deal it's a 1 + 1. If you sign a 3 year deal it's 3 + 1. The "option" has always been the club's op...

i think acree was a decent receiver but i don't know if he made the esks receving corps that much better. I agree, he will be a solid fill in, but shouldn't come back to bite us. "Funny that Chaps would take him on and him sign there, given that he rarely saw the field under Chapdelaine as a L...
