Re: The decline of Vancouver sports media & its effect on Lions

A little nugget here that is quite relevant to this topic. As we boarded our team charter to Edmonton Thursday morning, there were copies of the Edmonton Sun available for reading. Doesn't usually happen when we fly, but for some reason, we took a bigger Canadian North plane on the way there and not...

Re: Official Kamloops Training Camp Thread 2018

A little pre-game reading for the tilt in Calgary, including a couple of key areas to watch... or listen about seeing as the game isn't televised.. https://www.bclions.com/2018/05/31/pre-season-preview-lions-stampeders/ Thanks, Matt. It’s also nice to see a real depth chart for the game, even thoug...

Re: Jeff Reinebold

If you think Jeff Reinebold is going to let his social media persona get in the way of coaching football, you simply don't know Jeff Reinebold.

Re: The decline of Vancouver sports media & its effect on Lions

Honestly, do people actually listen to Jim Rome and Dan Patrick on the radio anymore? In this day and age with podcast capability and the i-Heart radio app, all you need is your phone and Bluetooth capability. I guess the Rome show you still need to subscribe, but all those other shows are easily at...

Re: Mark's CFL Week - can it work here?

Having attended each of the last two years for bclions.com, I can honestly say the buzz this year in Winnipeg very much paled in comparison to Regina in 2017. Maybe part of it was being a bit more spread out, compared to everything being essentially in the same building last year. My gut feeling is ...

Re: 2017 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

Being at the tail end of the Baby Boomer group (1963), I can say I don't much care for the relentless invasion of digital media in my life (and that is coming from a retired Network Engineer). Frankly, there isn't that much that I want to know on a regular basis about most things. If I want to chec...

Re: 2017 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

While the Lions may be strong in other social media metrics, they are now second last in the CFL in Twitter followers with 124K, behind the lowly Argos at 127K. The Redblacks have only been in the league for 3 seasons, so not surprisingly, they're dead last with 118K. The Roughriders lead the leagu...

Re: 2017 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

No complaints about the social content, Matt. You and the club do a great job with fan engagement. It's just when I tracked this (no more than) a couple of years ago, BC was 3rd in the league behind Sask and Wpg. Other teams' numbers have really spiked while we don't seem to have grown at the same ...

Re: The decline of Vancouver sports media & its effect on Lions

The thought occurred to me this morning as I listened to two young guys on Sportsnet 650 dissect the 2017 Seattle Seahawks and speculate on off-season moves. What will Vancouver's sports broadcasting look like in 20 years? Eventually, those with a passion for the Leos and the CFL, such as Don Taylo...

Re: Football Operations: GM Ed Hervey, HC Wally Buono and the Coaching Staff

MB told me not long after Buck went to the Bombers as a player that his dad believed he'd live in Winnipeg long term. I can't grasp that concept - but I've never lived outside Vancouver or Hong Kong other than 11 months and 10 and 8 month stints in Tahsis, BC It's amazing the pull that Winnipeg has...

Re: 2018 schedule

At any rate, its better than it used to be, My Dad started taking me to games in '91. The first afternoon game I remember was Thanksgiving Day 1995 against Calgary, the same night the Canucks hosted Detroit in the first ever game at GM Place. We went to Courtnall's for a meal in between. So based on...

Re: 2018 schedule

Believe it or not, when we do play a 400 home game we hear from the same amount of complainers. "It's too early." "We'd rather be outside during the day in summer." "It cuts into dinner plans." As we all know, people act like we are in the only city on earth where there...

Re: Jeff Reinbold is baaaaack... ST coach.

Not a big fan of Rita, but the whole thing was hilarious. It's pretty much the first thing I think of when Reinbold's name is mentioned. Funny, but when playing "word association" with Adam Rita, I think of former TEAM1040 (and later Whitecaps play-by-play announcer) Peter Schaad. He had ...
