Re: Who will be moving on?

Definitely bad news if Richardson can't play. With Gwacham still unsigned, Lions def line not as strong as last year.

I see that AJ Ouellette retweeted a rumour that BC is interested.

Re: Who will be moving on?

Wow, I can understand accommodating Williams and we do have a logjam at LB, but I am shocked that we couldn't do better than a late first. Argos are now set at LB for the next 5 years or more and, for this year at least, have an all star level Nat playing on a bargain contract. We get a pig in a pok...

Re: Who will be moving on?

As a NAT and the CFL's highest paid RB in 2022 Harris will still cost a lot more than Butler who certainly deserves a large raise on his league minimum salary of $65K last year. 8 of the top 12 salaries for CFL RBs in 2022 went to NATs with only Harris and Oliviera being their club's starting tailb...

Re: Who will be moving on?

I like Butler. He has shown real improvement in his time here. That said, there are some others available that could do the job, and might even be better options. Oullette and Hills are bigger, more powerful backs. I wonder if Calgary might part with one of their backs. Last year Edmonton found a di...

Re: Rourke begins NFL workouts next week

I see what you mean, but a 80k base contract with 500k bonus would be pretty anomalous. I mean, why strictly control the base salary but then allow unlimited bonus? I suspect they just wanted to fit a bunch of extra words into the third column of the table and didn't have room for the bonus info. A...

Re: Rourke begins NFL workouts next week

I have never seen a clear explanation of how the Lions would be able to sign Roarke to a lucrative contract given the cost-controlled framework for first contracts for nationals in the CBA. Section 9.02 of the 2019 CBA states that "All Nationals will be required to sign a minimum 2 + 1 first c...

Re: Who will be moving on?

According to 3DownNation reporter John Hodge, Purifoy was due a $30,000 off-season roster bonus on Feb. 15, 2023. The CFLPA have achieved some significant improvements under the new leadership group there but this issue should never be happening. https://3downnation.com/2023/01/04/b-c-lions-release...

Re: Veron Adams as starter for 2023?

There may be a QB carousel in the off season. I was surprised to learn that, if the season started tomorrow, Mitchell would be the youngest starting QB in the east by a couple of years. Perhaps he could have a career renaissance like Collaros. He is a smart QB but can he be effective over a full sea...

Re: Rourke begins NFL workouts next week

This is why I think the best route to the NFL for Rourke is to play a full season in 2023 as a starting CFL QB vs going to the NFL at this point to hold a clip board. I don't have any knowledge or insight into how things work in the NFL. But it seems to me that developing QBs would have the benefit...

Re: Rourke begins NFL workouts next week

In my view, the best comparison for Rourke attempting to go from the CFL to NFL is Ricky Ray. Both are smart, highly accurate passers who were successful very early in their CFL careers. If I am not mistaken, Ray was 25 when he went south while Rourke is 24. The main advantage Rourke has over Ray is...

Re: Rourke begins NFL workouts next week

There are two reasons why Rourke should sign in the NFL if a decent opportunity arises: 1. He has already proven that he can dominate in the CFL. 2. He is 24 years old. His age combined with his talent is his greatest asset. He would have nothing to prove by coming back to the CFL. He would just be ...

Re: Western Final Nov.13: BC at Winnipeg

According to Matt Baker’s postgame recap, James Butler suffered an apparent shoulder injury early in the game. That may have accounted for his poor production, with just 4 yards rushing on 6 carries. Again, not having a backup RB gave the Lions little option to take him out of the game. How in the ...

Re: Western Final Nov.13: BC at Winnipeg

Actually, the Lions have a bigger front 7 than the Bombers and by quite a bit. Banks at DT at 290 is bigger than either of the Bombers solid but pretty average DTs of Thomas & Sayles who are listed at 274 & 282; Menard at 260 & Betts at 250 are bigger than either of the Bombers DE duo o...
