Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

The Lions have vastly upgraded their scouting department by luring Ryan Rigmaiden back from Grey Cup champion Winnipeg as director of U.S. scouting. Rigmaiden held the same position for the Lions from 2013 to 2017 before taking a similar role with the Bombers. Rigmaiden replaces Torey Hunter on the ...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

Thanks for posting BC 1988. The big news for me from this interview is that Ed Hervey won't be replaced by another GM. Rick Campbell and Neil McEvoy will jointly take over duties for the foreseeable future. No word about Geroy. DH  Geroy is listed below Neil McEvoy, Torey Hunter and Rob Ralph...

Re: 2021 schedule

The CFL's best home is that the vaccine is widely distributed by mid June or July so they can get fans in the stands, otherwise...... The U.S. and Japan have pledged to vaccinate everyone who wants it by May or June. Canada plans to start vaccinating vulnerable people early in the new year and fini...

Re: 2021 schedule

Any idea why we don't play Winnipeg, Hamilton or Toronto twice? Why only once. According to Arash Madani, the imbalanced schedule is designed to reduce travel. The Lions play Winnipeg three times, once at home and twice on the road. They get two home games against Saskatchewan and Calgary and none ...

2021 schedule

The CFL has released a full 2021 schedule. If all goes well, the Lions will open the regular season on the road in Calgary on Saturday, June 12, and then play on Friday, June 18 in Edmonton. The home opener will be Saturday, June 26 against Montreal. The schedule isn't ideal, given the Lions' prefer...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

For those who missed it, video of the Lions' virtual town hall with Randy Ambrosie is posted on bclions.com.

Kudos to Matt Baker for the work he has been doing on public relations and social media during the doubly long offseason.

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

Randy Ambrosie expanded on the league’s planning process for 2021 at the Lions’ Virtual Town Hall for season ticketholders Tuesday night. He stressed again that the plans will have to be scalable but he said the league will be guided by advice from the chief public health officers in the six provinc...

Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

I watched Randy Ambrosie's virtual Fan State of the League moderated by Sara Orlesky of TSN today and read his longer Q&A interview with Chris O'Leary of cfl.ca. Ambrosie expressed confidence that the league will play in 2021 and said a schedule is ready to be released soon. He expressed confidence ...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

Despite uncertainties about the future of the franchise, the fate of the 2021 CFL season and the status of Mike Reilly’s contract, the Lions have invited season ticket-holders to attend a virtual town-hall meeting next Tuesday with Randy Ambrosie, Rick LeLacheur and Rick Campbell. They’re promising ...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

According to Farhan Lalji, the $250,000 guaranteed portion of Mike Reilly's contract wasn't filed with the league, and neither Rick LeLacheur nor David Braley were aware of it.

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

Player salaries accounting for just under 30% compared to 50% for most other professional leagues is disappointing. Also hard to squeeze the fans any more than they already do. This is the league’s best opportunity to overhaul its business model. Teams have more non-players than players on their pa...

Re: Post David Braley era - what comes next?

Interesting that Mr Braley was involved in returning the Tiger Cats to community ownership many years ago so that there is a precedent. This is my hope for the Lions. The other news to me that the Lions did not pay rent emphasizes the importance of the team to BC Place. Splitting the revenue pie be...

Re: RIP David Braley

Matt Baker brought together Wally Buono and George Chayka for a nice video tribute to David Braley on the Lions' 1st and Now podcast. They share a number of stories about Braley that I hadn't heard before and that give good insight into his character, personality and loyalty to his staff. https://ww...

For what it's worth, Francesco Aquilini says the Canucks still aren't interested in buying the Lions.

Re: Post David Braley era - what comes next?

Good discussion points, and they've all been debated before on this board and elsewhere. We still don't know what changes the CFL will make to its business model as a result of the pandemic and the effects of the general decline in live spectator sports viewership. It's a new world, and new ideas ar...
