Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Paying players pro-rated salaries for a shortened season has many complications. A lot of veteran players have already received significant advances on their 2020 salaries in the form of offseason bonuses. Mike Reilly reportedly has a six-figure report-and-pass bonus for showing up to training camp ...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

The CFL minimum salary of $65,000 works out to about $13,000 a month for 5 months, or about $22,000 for a 6-game season over a month and a half.

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

According to Dave Naylor and Farhan Lalji of TSN, the CFL and its players association have made progress in negotiating a return to play agreement and have submitted a joint request for federal assistance believed to be about a quarter of the maximum $150 million mentioned previously by commissioner...

Re: Simulated CFL Games

Yes. I’ve been watching his daily talk show and some of the simulated games. He does a good job. It’s nice to have a Canadian sports talk show that gives a lot of love to CFL football. I mentioned in another thread that that all originally scheduled 2020 CFL games are being simulated on Twitch.tv by...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Negotiations are ongoing. The league has set a July 23 deadline for adoption of health and safety protocols, assurance of acceptable federal funding, and the renegotiation of the CBA beyond its current expiration date of 2021. Here's an update from Dan Barnes of Postmedia: Time working against Cana...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Thought there was talk earlier about all players becoming free agents at some point if the season did not proceed. Haven't heard any more about that but believe negotiations are ongoing with the CFLPA. Not sure where they are on it though. Anyone know more about that? Was there a certain date? Nego...

Re: Claybrooks

Ultimately I wouldn't care if Claybrooks was wearing a Cherry-esque suit if the team was playing well. It wasn't. He showed many signs of a rookie head coach. There were times when decisive action was required such as in the bye week. He chose to do nothing and by the time he did, it was pretty muc...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Ambrosie is largely to blame for the breakdown in communications with the CFLPA and the ensuing leaks and rumours. Instead of saying the league was looking at several options, he should have spelled those options out publicly from the outset, with all the pros and cons of each, along with a deadline...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

I don't have a problem with a 6 game season and an 8 team playoff. It's all about trying to placate the owners who want to keep financial losses low. Less games, less $$$ losses. At least they should have a better chance of accomplishing something if they do it properly. Agreed. The 6-game proposal...

According to this report Winnipeg will be the hub city, if there's games in 2020. https://3downnation.com/2020/07/02/winn ... 20-report/
If that happens, it will be over the objection of the Lions.

Re: Claybrooks

Nice to see a Claybrooks update on 3DN and to clear a little air surrounding his dismissal. Bearing no grudges will find him work again soon. I said at the time it didn't come from Ed Hervey and was somewhat coincidentally timed with Neil McEvoy taking his name out of consideration for the Montreal...
