Re: Post David Braley era - what comes next?

I like the idea of local ownership, perhaps a consortium of investors with deep pockets and deep connections to the business community, but I don't think traditional community ownership is viable in a pandemic economy. I understand privately owned teams were willing to play a shortened season at a ...

Re: Post David Braley era - what comes next?

For what it's worth, Francesco Aquilini says the Canucks still aren't interested in buying the Lions. https://twitter.com/fr_aquilini/status/1321581109809831936?s=20 "...at the moment" could be significant. With the current situation, who knows how long it will before there will be any attendance r...

Re: Ed Hervey leaves Lions for "personal reasons"

Hervey's departure tells me he sees the writing on the wall, just like Lulay did earlier this year. Knowing what I do now about the Lulay family business and the fact Travis' degree was in Business Finance I don't think he was long for the football world once his playing days ended regardless of wh...

Re: Ed Hervey leaves Lions for "personal reasons"

Well, I hope that he is okay or going to be okay. I wonder where that leaves the Lions at the moment. I suppose they have the benefit of not having to pay his salary while there is nothing going on but I guess the search will have to begin. Who might be GM material that is available? Internally McE...

Re: Chase Claypool & the big BC receiver army

Lefty Hendrickon was a TE, not huge by TE standards, but another big BC guy who had a decent CFL career. Lefty wasn't huge by today's standards but he wasn't small by early 70s standards, probably average. Lefty listed at 6'1" 216. Herman "Ham Hands" Harrison went 6'3" 210. Colts legendary TE John ...

Re: Lions slighted ?

I believe the Lions’ last Thanksgiving contest was in 2010, a 47-35 overtime loss in Winnipeg. That would be fun to watch again, at least for three quarters. The Lions imploded afterwards, surrendering 21 points in the fourth quarter and 15 in overtime, including a game-clinching pick-6 off Casey P...

Re: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks/NHL Season Thread

As much as I hate to see Markstrom leave I think it was a good FA day today for Benning. Retaining Markie would have kept them up against it cap-wise for a few years. Adding Holtby gives them a solid tandem with Demkoand sets up for the transition to Demko as the starter. At the same time it sets th...

Re: Lions slighted ?

Over the years BC has often played on Thanksgiving weekend but usually on the much preferred by fan's Saturday night or even Friday. I always look for the Thanksgiving weekend schedule in hopes of a possible Lions-Canucks weekend as the NHL season is always under way by then.

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

As a complete side note, does anyone else besides me think that it is bloody strange that virtually every other sports stadium/arena in North America has naming rights but not BC Place? It's a crown corp yes, but it's not exactly making money hand over fist from what I hear. They can use all the re...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

Dome vs Winnipeg? If Dome means BC Place then LeLacheur pretty much shot that down as not being viable back in May. Biggest difference is that the Lions are mere tenants in BCP renting it out for several hours 10 or 11 times a year. The Bombers on the other hand not only play out of IGF Field they a...

Re: 2020 U.S. Presidential Election Thread

A couple of other choice phrases for future references. Trump likes to say "you are a very rude person". I would throw that back at him. The other thing I would do is when he talks about having plans for anything be it healthcare, the economy. Challenge him to present it. To "put his money where hi...

Re: CFL Neg. List

Remember those lists only represent about 1/4 of the full lists. I've found it interesting the way teams select the players and positions to be on the portions of their released lists. I wonder if it's done strategically. I suspect all teams' lists are heavily laden with QBs. Most probably have a do...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

I agree 100%. I would have paid good money to Elemimian and others and got some other less expensive QB. Someone like Travis Lulay ? Speaking of Travis I was just thinking about those Oregon fires and hoping all is OK for him and his family. They and the family business are based in Stayton, OR. Ne...
