Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

So 25 web pages later, we know in the direct sense the answer to the subject heading (how (COVID) could impact the Lions/CFL). The season was cancelled. But the much bigger question remains, "What now?" How will this cancellation impact the league's status next year and in the coming years? A lot de...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

Good interview with Rick Campbell on what team he had in 2020, why he loves Vancouver, and hopes for a turnaround at the gate (starts around the 27 min mark).

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

Same. ^^ Love MBT's arm but he strikes me as that NHL type who puts together a monster season right before he becomes a UFA. Is it sustainable? Not sure, but I don't see huge upside in him. As Hambone says, 'journeyman.' Why did the Argos pursue Matt Nichols as a FA if they thought MBT was the answe...

Re: petition TSN to change all-time Lions team

Agreed. Banks, Marsh and Phillips all had lengthy careers as CFL all-stars but they wanted to keep playing beyond their best-before date. In all cases, Wally knew when their time was up. Elite players don't get where they are by being unsure of themselves. There's always a degree of ego involved. A...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

I was listening to the Canuck game on Sirius last night driving back to PG from Vancouver. They had the St. Louis broadcast crew doing it. They talked about the bubble and pondered whether Arizona might have already been counting the days before they could go home as they rolled over and lost the f...

Re: Speculation is over. No season in 2020.

This is either a failure of PR, a failure of leadership, or both. Either way, someone who is employed today should not be as a result. A league with a plan lays out to the public the costs and challenges of doing a reduced hub city season. They have a plan for this and an anticipated cost for that ...

Re: TSN all-time Lions team

Big oversight in Korey Banks. Massive playmaker, year in and year out. Very reliable and had longevity. Didn't we draft him from Ottawa when the Renegades folded? 8 great seasons! It should never be forgotten that Jim "Dirty 30" Young did not have great quarterbacks throwing to him so would be on my...

https://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040/lalji-eriksson-earned-his-minutes-virtanen-s-back-check-a-good-moment-1.1504666 Succinct 3 minutes of Farhan on TSN 1040 this morning. At 7:46 they shift from Canucks to CFL. Farhan says he has had enough of deadline talk and rumours --"Are you playing or are...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Yea, The Rock has tweeted a couple of times about being grateful to CFL/Wally for giving him a chance but when push came to shove, when he was in town filming a movie, he never came out to a game or practice. I'm not saying there is a lot of free time during a tight filming schedule but he could hav...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

The CFL has a chance (if it can ever get its collective s**t together) to one-up the NFL as that league seems to be following MLBs start-up model of having its teams travel city-to-city instead of a bubble approach. If Wave 2 occurs in the Fall, that plan could all go sideways. As it is, MLB is disc...

Re: Lions announce the passing of Ted Gerela

From Ed Willes's Monday Musings column (7/27/20): When Lui Passaglia was growing up in East Van, he made a practise of arriving early for B.C. Lions’ games at Empire Stadium to watch Ted Gerela warm up. “He made it look so easy,” Passaglia said of the Lions’ former placekicker. “The ball just explod...

Re: Lions announce the passing of Ted Gerela

I asked PostMedia's Ed Willes why no mention of Ted (when they went with 2 pages of Jack McIlhargey....and then incorrectly captioned a photo from the 1970s as Dennis Ververgaert!). Ed said that he's writing a piece for Monday, but to send him what I've got. Here goes: According to Lui (who looked u...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

Can such distractions be a concern? I thought the idea of the bubble is that players can only leave the bubble (hotel/residence) to get on the charter bus to be delivered to the stadium or practice facility and returned. Like the old "Go to Jail" card in Monopoly...…...do not pass go, do not collec...

Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

I like the idea of Winnipeg and Calgary (making it a little more East and West than Winnipeg and Regina). You stand a better chance of milder weather in Calgary in November or December as well (especially if gameday happens to coincide with a Chinook wind). More flights into Calgary for incoming pla...

Lions announce the passing of Ted Gerela

Sad news from the Den. Longtime fans will remember kicker Ted Gerela who just passed away at age 76. He was the league's first soccer-style kicker and known for his powerful leg. RIP.
