Re: Lions vs Calgary West Semi - Keys to the Game

Lots of great insights on what the team needs to do to secure a win. I would like to see the pass defence get up tight in man-to-man - the zone looks too loose. Corners could get tighter on the wideouts and the safeties stand their ground more. It seems they play miles off the ball and turn and run ...

Re: Lions at Elks Sept. 22, 2023

This tilt in Edmonton could very well be a trap game. To escape the trap, I think the Lions need to do a few things. In no particular order. Tackle better. i don’t know what happened with their tackling. At the beginning of the season it was some of the best I had seen from a Lions team in a long ti...

Re: Thriller at Mosiac

Don't forget Mo "The Toe" Racine for Ottawa back in the 60's. Played over 15 years. Joe Zuger brings back memories. Started as a quality DB and took over QB after Bernie Faloney I think. Hell of a punter.

Re: B.C. at Montreal Sept. 2, 2023

I thought that with the injuries to receivers, they might bring Eberhardt up from the PR. He showed great promise in the preseason, especially in the short - first down receptions. With the anticipated pressure from Montreal's defence on VA, having a sure-handed short pass receiver would be invaluab...

Re: Montreal vs. B.C. July 9, 2023

Fun game yesterday - first one I watched in the stadium this year. The crowd was having a lot of fun with the 'family' theme. I was in section 213 and saw jillions of little kids covered in Lions' paraphernalia - Doman is doing a good job at bringing along younger fans and making going to a game fam...

Re: CFL Week 4

I think 'dreadful' is too generous a description for the Elks. The defence can not stop the run, Special teams are very slow, and receivers can't make doable receptions. I have been watching the CFL since '67 and this is about the worse team I have seen. I agree with Milt Stegall - if I were an Elk ...

Re: Season opener - BC @ Calgary

I was not too sure what to expect from the team last night but after 60 minutes of football I came to these conclusions: - Calgary is not the team it used to be; - Adams is more than an adequate replacement; - Rhymes earns his pay check; - Our offensive line was as close to purrfect on pass protecti...

If Anderson is playing, why not give David Mackie another shot? He really showed his power the last time he got a chance to run the ball. Great blocker as well. Perhaps they will play both of them and have Anderson return punts. I think he played special teams with the Elks last season.

Re: Elks vs. Lions Aug. 6, 2022

Something Butler gives this offence that has not been mentioned is his blocking ability. He is short yet heavy and strong and has taken on most of the blitzes the CFL has thrown at Rourke. His strong stocky build gets him under a defender and lifts him thus slowing the defender down. He contributes ...

Re: It's Rourke's Offense Now

Have been away from the Forum for quite a while, but after reading the insights of those regular contributors I realize how much I missed this group. The discussion around Rourke is interesting. My take is that he will be very successful if the coaches adapt an offence to fit his skill set rather th...

Re: XFL 2020 season (topic updated)

About the rule changes: I like the transparency rule on video replays. Hearing the officials discuss the replay and how they see it and arrive at their decision helps the game. As for players, coaches, refs being mic'd? I find it contributes to too much chatter and background noise. For me, the broa...

Re: Last Game - Who Will Win

The Lions will win. I still believe that this team is a great team that got off on the wrong foot. Yes there were some bad decisions but let's enjoy our last kick at the Stamps. Roar you Lions Roar!

Re: Lions 40 RedBlacks 7 Post Game Thread

Ottawa was exactly what our limping Leo's needed. These two games have instilled some confidence in the entire team - as they say, winning is infectious. Let's see if that holds true when they play Montreal - a team they should have beaten out here in BC. I really like the fact that we are starting ...

Re: Claybrooks says Full Examination Coming

If this examination is a Pass/Fail examination then here are a few failures. Thompson fails. You can not have 4 of the 8 penalties on special teams and play on the team again. He almost single-handedly placed the team at a disadvantage regarding where the starting line of scrimmage was. Look at the ...

Former Lions playing for other teams

I took a look at some of the recent Lions playing for other teams. I tried to look at players who were with us last year or 2018. I didn't include Andrew Harris or Adam Bighill who were either way too expensive or more than three years from the team. I may have made a few boo-boos on the list as far...
