Re: Lions' receivers
Yeah, Claypool has NFL level talent, but from where I sit it appears he does not have pro football maturity. I don't think his ego would allow him to play in the CFL. Claypool comes across to me as being similar to Duron Carter. Long on talent but lacking the sort of maturity needed to be a pro. Wh...

Re: Touchdown Pacific in Victoria 2024
I’m glad I grabbed some seats when I did. It should be a blast. For anyone coming from out of town, I wouldn’t recommend driving to the game. The streets around there are not designed for high levels of traffic. It’s not far from downtown or bus routes though.

Re: Touchdown Pacific in Victoria 2024
There was a "CFL member" presale today. I didn't know I was a CFL member but it is lucky I am because there were very few tickets remaining. I managed to get 3 next to each other. Otherwise there were only singles left. If that is truly all that is left, there will be slim pickings when sa...

Re: Lions' receivers
This offense needs to replace Lucky in order to be effective. If you don't have a guy who can burn down the field running a nine route that defenses have to respect you're in trouble. Accordingly, when Lucky lost a step, the offense as designed was largely ineffective against teams that played zone...

Re: Thoughts on getting Stanback?
I agree with everything BC FAN said. The only caveat is that Stanback might be most effective in a platoon type situation, rather than expecting him to carry the whole load by himself all year long. In any case, the signing is a signal that the team will be more dedicated to establishing a more bala...

Re: Woody Baron & Quincy Mauger released
Not totally surprised about Baron as he was pretty well paid and our d line should be okay without him. Mauger is more surprising as he seemed to be just coming into his own and likely is good value for what he earns. Maybe there is something else going on there that we are not privy to. I thought B...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
I was surprised to learn that Stanback is younger than Mizzell. I like this signing a lot. If he can stay relatively healthy, he will be a big upgrade on the running game. He can pound the ball and pick up the hard yards, which Mizzell would never be able to do. Plus he knows the game and can do the...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Of the ten remaining I have 4 "want back badly" candidates; Betts, Hladik, Edwards-Cooper and Knevel. The rest.........except maybe for Jones who can be a handy veteran to have around.......can move on. Betts was outstanding last year, but need to be cautious of overpaying. I would love t...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Streveler would be an intriguing possibility for every team. But not every team would be intriguing to him. Then there is the related question of whether he would be a capable starting QB. Most running QBs eventually settle into becoming pocket passers in order to reduce the risk of injury. But that...

Re: Lions release Rhymes
Sounds like he didn’t agree to restructure his contract. In any case, signing Hatcher, Hollins and Cottoy had to be the priority as far as receivers go. I see that they have signed a couple of US receivers as well. They have been successful in finding quality receivers the last few years, which is t...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
The difference between Butler in 2021 and Mizzell in 2023 is that Butler noticeably improved over the course of the season, which gave some optimism for 2022, while Mizzell didn't seem to improve to the same extent in 2023. If anything, Mizzell may have regressed. In 2021, in Butler's first 5 games,...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Re linebackers. On the one hand, it is good to deal from a position of strength, but also hard to lose young talent that the team recruited and developed. My inclination is that starting calibre Canadians, especially when they are from BC like Hladik, are more rare and valuable than US players. Unle...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Still bothers me to see guys getting released prior to a bonus payment due. Only in the CFL. Also makes me wonder if the two year deal was part of the process that swayed Steven Dunbar to sign in Edmonton when he could have been a key player for the Ti Cats in a Grey Cup hosting year. Probably soun...

Re: Dane Evans Retires
Good for him for knowing what he wants and going for it.
Given the state of quarterbacking around the league, he likely could have gotten a decent incentive-based contract with a great chance of winning a starter job. It is definitely a loss for the league.

Re: Training camp or game in Victoria in 2024?
I do think demand will far exceed supply for this contest. Hard to believe there won't be at least 4K-5K of Mainlanders and CFL fans from other cities. So it won't take many locals to fill the place. DH  Personally, I can't wait. I'm going to be on the ticket site the moment that tickets go o...
