Re: 2021 season

New study from the UK suggests that a single dose of Pfizer falls below the threshold of protection against variants in the majority of people. This doesn't bode well for an August start date. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-one-dose-of-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-still-leaves-patients-vul...

Re: 2021 season

Vaccine procurement and rollout is one variable. Another is how effective a single dose is against variants. Then there is the possibility of new variants. None of these things are known, which makes predictions difficult. If all goes perfectly according to plan, then potentially games with fans cou...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

I agree the announcement was ill-planned, but what's done is done. I am not opposed to potential partnerships, alignment, whatever with the XFL. I think that it is a good direction... provided that they do not stray too far from the traditions of Canadian football, in particular: 3 downs, team names...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

I don’t think Ambrosie jumped the gun. I think some commentators, particularly Dave Naylor and Rod Pedersen, jumped the gun by speculating that these talks will inevitably lead to a merger of the two leagues and the end of three-down football, with its fan-friendly field size, backfield motion, pla...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

Ambrosie jumped the gun on this announcement. Nobody has any issue with working with another league to grow the game. But there are tweets going around about mergers, changing rules, etc.. XFL has nothing to lose here, they are just an idea at this point. CFL has a lot of history behind it. There ne...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

I understand the rationale for this approach, but let's see it for what it is: an extremely risky gamble necessitated by an unwillingness to take adequate measures to control transmission and a total reliance on other countries to provide vaccine supply.

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

Can't help but feel positive about today's vaccine plan news from Dr. Bonnie. It is interesting that she cites evidence from Canada, UK and Israel to support the idea that a single dose can provide protection for 4 months... even though none of these jurisdictions have had vaccination programs in p...

Re: Braley Wants to Sell Lions

Hambone and David, I hope that you are right, and I certainly don't have any information that would suggest otherwise. But it's not hard to see how this situation could go sideways--all it takes is one or two disgruntled people. If forced to choose between blood, money, and the Lions, I don't like t...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

I wonder where the UK would be if they had to work with the same logistics Canada has to deal with? UK has nearly double the population of Canada in an area about double the combined size of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. I don't think that this is a major factor given modern transportation and dis...

Re: Randy Ambrosie optimistic about 2021

This is the problem when you rely solely on the vaccine to address the health crisis, but you have to depend on others to provide the vaccine for you. Some jurisdictions have had full crowds at sporting events SAFELY well before any vaccine was approved. We chose the lazy way. Borrow money to keep t...

Re: Braley Wants to Sell Lions

The "nest egg" set aside for the Lions likely exceeds the value of the franchise, especially now. I suspect that the estate would be very pleased to sell the franchise for $1 today if they could recoup the money set aside for operating the franchise. The only other option is to watch that ...

Re: 3DownNation says 2021 Season May Not Happen

I don't think any franchises are sellable unless owners are willing to accept pennies on the dollar. For the beneficiaries of Braley's estate, it might be in their interests to get what they can now so they can recoup at least some of the money Braley set aside for the team. They won't get much for...

Re: 3DownNation says 2021 Season May Not Happen

Report from Neil Macrae on 1040 this morning that Braley isn't ready to sell. In all seriousness, having a dead owner ruling from the grave is less than ideal. I read on 3downnation that the CFL might be planning to play without fans. Lets see. I think we are still a ways away from large scale publi...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency

Elizondo looks like a natural fit for Edmonton. Maybe even an upgrade on Milanovich. Re Burnham, I wonder if Campbell prefers Ellingson and so is not too concerned about letting Burnham walk. Ellingson was one of the most consistent receivers in the league during their time together. People like to...
