Feel really good for Evans. This environment is exactly why he wanted to come to BC.

So, a question. Has any CFL team pitched 2 shutout in the same season? At least since leather helmets?

Brings Doege in 12 secs left. Jones needs to be punted this coming bye week
If I was Doege I would take that as an insult

Even tougher - against the same team?

That was another solid performance by the Lions in all three phases of the game.

On defence, the Lions shut out the Elks for the second time this season, just the second B.C. shutout since 1977.

On offence, Dane Evans completed 25 of 32 passes for 330 yards and 2 TDs, while Taquan Mizzell rushed 22 times for 117 yards.

On special teams, Sean Whyte was purrfect 4
for 4 on field goals and 2 for 2 on converts.

Well said B.C. Fan. It was complete domination. 3 or 4 pass interference penalties plus the overthrow by Hatcher and the Lions could have had 450 yards in the air.

Quite an amazing fact since they virtually shut down their passing game around the 10 minute mark of the 3rd quarter.

Also they shut down 2 drives when they elected to punt on two third and ones.

The game was well managed by coach Campbell.

I assumed they were bringing him in for a hail mary to try to at least get in FG range. But then they ran the ball twice. It was a shame that post game no one had the guts to ask Chris Jones why he would finally bench Cornelius with only 12 seconds remaining. Glenn Suitor gets a lot of flack on forums like this, but at least he dropped the comment "when it comes to criticising Chris Jones coaching I think we are too respectful of his resume". Dustin Neilsen, who used to work at TSN Radio in Edmonton before they shut down the station, was silent for a moment before changing the subject. In other words, Suits was saying they are all intimidated by Jones.

Pass protection need to be better. Surrendering 5 sacks not good. Against Winnipeg it will come back to bite you.

There are a lot of great Canadian players in the CFL. Unfortunately there are not enough great ones to fill all of the rosters. Most teams load up all there defences with import players.

By doing that they tend to play a lot of the Canadians on the offensive line. This causes lots of sacks, and pressures and why most teams have above average defences and sub par offences.

Throw in a couple of injuries to Canadian offensive linemen and it is a further drop off. Thus limiting offence and putting are most valuable assets (Quarterbacks in harms way).

Although many might disagree with me (which is fine) The facts show that all teams have an above average defensive line and a below average offensive line. Just watch some of these Canadian offensive lineman getting beat over and over.

I have no problem with the Canadian content but if the league wants to protect our quarterbacks and improve offence they need to implement some rule that requires them to play a certain amount of Canadians on each side of the ball.

Until they do that I am afraid the low scoring games will continue and our Quarterbacks will be running for their lives.

First on a side issue, the biggest shutouts in NFL history:
https://www.nfl.com/photos/biggest-shut ... 0000495844

In two cases, the Rams shut out their opponents but in one case they were based out of LA and the other when they were in St. Louis.

Looking at the 2023 CFL Guide for largest shutout:

Largest Shutout
56-0 Winnipeg 56 vs Saskatchewan 0 Jul 5/86
55-0 Edmonton 55 vs Saskatchewan 0 Aug 24/59
53-0 Toronto 53 vs Winnipeg 0 Oct 8/67
52-0 Saskatchewan 52 vs Winnipeg 0 Sep 2/12
52-0 Edmonton 52 vs Calgary 0 Sep 22/56
50-0 Road: Calgary 50 at Toronto 0 Sep 22/63 (Road Rec)
48-0 Toronto vs Hamilton Sep 10/05

This does not answer before this season if a team has achieved two shutouts in one season.

This Lions defence is the most dominant I can recall in my time as a Lions fan. Betts may be the best DL in the league right now. The secondary is lights out. They read every play, make every tackle. Obviously excellent coaching and top level talent at every position.

I like both Adams and Evans at QB. It is quite a coup to have both given the dearth of qb talent around the league. Dom Davis could probably start for a few teams. I think there may be some tough decisions come play-off time. Evans has excellent accuracy. Adams can make things happen with his legs. Both have their weaknesses too.

Also quite impressed with Mizzell. I don't think we lost much with Butler leaving. Would be fun to see Shivers and Mizzell in the same game but that seems unlikely.

Great player recruitment by McEvoy, Rigmaiden, etc.. How long before Rigmaiden becomes a GM in this league?

I don't disagree but just see this as part of the risk analysis that teams undertake when they build their roster. In recent years some teams have gone to 3 imports and 2 Canadians on OL. But this has impacts elsewhere. It seems to me that a good QB and good system can often overcome the perceived disadvantages from starting 3-4 Canadians on the OL. Of course, there are many Canadian OL that are excellent at their position and can compete and excel against US linemen. At the end of the day, it is all just a game of trying to mitigate and hide your weaknesses regardless of nationality. Just my 2 cents.
