Since the other FA thread is mostly intended to focus on BC's pending FAs I thought I'd start a new one with a different theme. 108 of the original list of 317 have been dealt with by their 2021 teams. With teams now able to talk to the rest who do you see as BC's top 5 targets?

My list is and in no particular order:
PK Sean Whyte
C Michael Couture
DE Ja'Gared Davis
DT Dylan Wynn
DT Steve Richardson
Honorable Mention: C/LT Ucambre Williams

If we can negotiate a decent contract Mason?I would work here and I've always liked MBT of Toronto but they will probably sign him soon. So the gimmie would be Harris because of his familiarity with Coach Campbell

My top 5:
DE Ja'Gared Davis (The Argos have reportedly already made a serious offer.)
DE Kwaku Boatang (Sack specialist would open up an American roster spot elsewhere.)
K Sean Whyte (a B.C. homecoming is likely, opening another American roster spot.)
C Michael Couture (Burnaby native shares a birthday with Wally Buono, Steve Nash and yours truly. He's a natural fit.)
OL Mark Korte (Elks likely have the inside track on versatile Edmonton native.)

I like Boateng too but the drawback I see there is Court Hammond is the only NAT DL they have and he's a tackle. While Boateng could be a ratio breaker if they aren't starting at least 8 NATs they would need to do some juggling if he gets hurt. They might need to find another FA NAT rush end to tandem with Boateng.

Right now we know we'll have 1 QB, 1 OL and 2 LBs for starting NAT spots. Everything else is somewhat grey.

I see Boateng as a rotational DE who would replace one of the six replaceable Americans who rotated on the DL last year, much as David Menard did for many years.

That's true. Most DLs these days are really 6 man units with 4 being assigned starting spots. In that regard you might be having to outbid a team willing to pay ratio breaker starter money for a guy you want to use on a rotational basis. If everybody else is thinking of him for rotational use then it's a level bidding field.

Say what????

According to 3 Down Nation’s Justin Dunk BC has submitted a big offer for Kenny Lawler. Reportedly $250,000

Spending like drunken sailors on receivers suggests not a whole lot of Reilly’s savings is going to the 1B QB.

Yikes if true. I have little use for anything Dunk has to say. He made a big deal already about Toronto being "front runner" for Davis a couple hours into the 7 day negotiating wind. No kidding. Wouldn't the first bid made make the bidder the front runner? Thanks Captain Obvious.

Having said that I can see BC going after another high end receiver. When you already have one starting spot tied up at QB and 2 more at LB you only need to find 4 more. If you have 3 on the OL then you only need 1 WR to get to 7.

As for Reilly's savings I'd like to think they wouldn't tie up more than 40%-50% of that on a 1B QB. Anything more than $200K would be one hell of an expensive insurance policy. The more they go above that the less confidence they are displaying in Rourke. Judging by comments by both Camobell and Burnham the confidence level they have in Rourke is very high to the point that the leash will be long.

Farhan confirming Lawlor $250,000 offer. Apparently also big time interest in re-uniting with Purifoy & Menard. Whyte’s pending arrival also confirmed.

Purifoy and Menard would be big signings if they can pull it off. $250k for Lawler; I'm not a big fan as I consider that over spending on the receiver group. Instead, over spend on the O and D line as that is the greatest area of need.

I wonder if throwing big $ at Lawler is a strategic move to force Bombers to match BC's offer, and then the Lions swoop in and out bid Bombers for one of their linemen?

With incentives Burnham gets $185, Whitehead $200, Lawler $250... :dizzy:

No drawback at all, by signing Boateng. You can find a DE in the draft or maybe your first round pick from last year comes north. Or when Boateng is getting a breather, put an American at DE and put Hammond at DT. Maybe you can get Boateng and get Betts at a cheaper deal.

Farhan Lalji seems to be on top of all CFL contract offers and signings. He says Winnipeg C Michael Couture is likely to re-sign with the Bombers rather than move home ro B.C. and Ottawa C Mark Korte has been offered $205,000 to sign with his hometown Elks. Those were the two offensive linemen on my wish list. There’s a lot more money floating around the league than there has been in the COVID years.

A bit early to tell on Joseph for this year. He is eligible for the NFL Draft and of course could be a priority UDFA. How those things play out won't be known until 2 weeks before training camps open. Might see him available for TC and might not see him until Labour Day or 2023. Hammond for the depth could work but he has to suit up more than he did last year when he only played 5 games. I thought about the Boateng/Betts combo but have a hunch Maciocia will be putting in a strong pitch to bring Betts back home to La Belle Province.
