It's very difficult for a young QB to just come in and make an impact without a year or two (at least) of grooming. The idea that you can just audition one QB after another until one sticks is nonsense. Jennings is a rare exception in becoming a starter in his first year, but he started out the year as a 3rd stringer, and had Lulay behind him when he faltered (and he has faltered a number of times in his short career). Lots of QBs who might have had success in the league flamed out because they were thrown to the wolves too quickly.

Riders have nothing in the pipeline and few options. Nichols is off the table. Burris and Franklin are likely unavailable. Tate, Lulay and Glenn aren't good enough to provide stability during a transition. Ricky Ray may be their best bet to hold the fort while they try to groom someone for the future. If they go with unproven QBs, they will just be prolonging their suffering. Regardless, they can almost certainly look forward to another losing year.
