He should be gone after that embarrassment and disgraceful performance
today. F-Troop was right about him being finished. Wally completely
ruined what was a good team. Sure he's great during the regular season
but when it comes playoff, he chokes. How many times have the Lions
choked in the playoffs since he's been here? He choked numerous times in Calgary.
Not to mention he cost the Lions the 2004 Grey Cup when he decided to
all old boys network and have his boy Dickenson play. Wally was all
stubborn couldn't put aside his pride.
Fire Wally

Cmon guys, give me a break. Some of you (us) are starting to sound like Rider fans.
Still in Riderville, hating the Riders!

Lets see now, Canucks fired two of the best in Quinn and Burke.Lion_Pride_26 wrote:[sarcasm] Good idea, let's fire the winningest coach in CFL history[/sarcasm]
Lions have already fired Mathews. I guess it only makes sense that they complete the picture and fire Wally
Every day that passes is one you can't get back
There is no one out there who could replace Wally.
However, Wally, unlike coaches like Trestmann, is not an x and o's guy and delegates to his coordinators in terms of strategy on both sides of the football. Wally sets the parameters and direction. However, reflecting Wally's philosophy, he has two coordinators who are not imaginative, innovative, or who are adjusting to the constantly changing nature of pro football in the CFL.
However, Lionbackers does not have rules like other websites that you have to love Wally to post. I agree with your comments regarding the old boys club in Grey Cup 2004 and Wally's struggles in the playoffs. However right now we still need his leadership. However, a part of that leadership for the future needs to be a reflection of not only our personell but our strategy.

"When I went to Catholic high school in Philadelphia, we just had one coach for football and basketball. He took all of us who turned out and had us run through a forest. The ones who ran into the trees were on the football team". (George Raveling)

The Lions have gone through lots of injury adversity this year. Losing key players through import ratios, salary caps etc. is also part of any professional team's natural cycle. Sure I would like to have seen more "pulling out the stops" attitude when down by 3 tds today but as mentioned in an earlier comment, who else ya gonna get to coach? Buono has proven time and time again he has a knack for finding top notch players and for most teams the down cycle can be REALLY down. Although today's game was very dissappointing this downturn is not nearly as bad as some others, or other BC teams for that matter. Let's cool our jets a bit and maybe give Wally a chance to rebuild that defense.
Congrats to the Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders; hope next Sunday's game is a barnburner.
Wally is here for the long run, and while I understand foc's frustration, perhaps one should refrain from going near a keyboard after a game such as the one we saw this morning.
Wally sill have new faces here next June, and then the second guessing can begin anew.

Man talk about an inflated assessment of the coaches importance. I find it amazing that so many experts think that changing out the coach will suddenly make us contenders. Anyone who has ever coached will tell you, some games you look great some games not so much. Some of it has to be worn by the coach and his game plan, but sometimes you just don't have the players to meet fan expectations. I 'm impressed that the insightfull people trashing the coaches have time in their busy professional coaching careers to post on this site? Seriously though, does anyone honestly believe if we had Montreals coaching staff and they had our todays game would have been a blowout for us? I don't! We need to look at all aspects of our game, I don't think there's a quick fix (I wish).
