This team has several candidates for 'stepping up your game award'.
Here, in no particular order, are 5 guys who fit the bill of raising their game to help carry a team that is really banged up right now.
Ryan Phillips- This kid has game. His closing speed, coverage and hands have all taken another step this year. Big play ability and self-confidence are evident with Phillips.
Cameron Wake- What else can be said about this guy that hasn't been said already? From a prospect, to a starter, to a dominant force on the end in about 3 weeks. Wow. Chris Warren who??
Joe Smith- Last year, a strong complemetary piece to the puzzle. Certainly the number one offensive threat this year. In the absence of a passing game, Smith's role has been massive. Overcoming his injury was crucial to the win this week, and 6 td's combined with no critical fumbles has been a big reason for 5-0.
Brent Johnson- Is it possible for the D-man and Canadian of the year in '06 to find another gear??
Yup. BJ has been the defacto leader of a D full of born leaders. He has made everyone better with his never quit motor, speed rush and QB crushing sacks. There is no better D-man in the league, again.
Jamal Johnson- Otis Floyd going down could have been killer if not for this rising star. Punishing hits on ST and D have the opposition looking around nervously for #39 before they are the next victim. You gotta love this kids desire, hustle and heart, not to mention his physical play!! Goodness.
Those are my 5. Anyone else come to mind?

1. Mitchell - or Dominguiez will eat him alive
2. Pottinger - watch Cates out the backfield and KJ's running
3. Simon - get open, catch the ball and help out the QB
4. Rodgers - we need one or two over the top
5. The Offensive Co-ordinators - put us a position to succeed. Don't be soooooooooo obvious.

Mitchell shut Dominguez down and seemed to frustrate him in the preseason. Joseph twice tried to go to Dominguez near the goal line and couldn't because Mitchell was right there. This could be different now that the game is for real. Dominguez has a six-inch height advantage, which the Riders would probably love to exploit.Lion Guy wrote:1. The O-Line! If they can contain the 'Riders pass rush and give Jarious more time to throw the ball and make his reads, it'll make his first start less of a worry and help to settle him down if he's not being forced to run for his life and scramble on every other play. Also, if they can get a good push off the line of scrimmage and open up holes for Joe to run through, it'll take less pressure off Jarious if we can gain yards on the ground consistently.
I think if the Lions O can do the second aspect you suggest first (run Joe run) the first concept will fall into place much easier. No Ordinary Joe wrote:The O-Line!
