I would love to see this guy charged and convicted. This will send a clear message to the idiots that their behaviour will not be tolerated.
I truly hope this serves as a wake up call for stadium security. As serious as this incident is, concider how much more serious it could have been. Nobody ever expected Martina Hingiss or whatever his name is to get stabbed during a tennis match. Let's hope they see this as a learning experience and are prepared for the season.
like I said in a different thread.
I saw the entire thing. the guy was standing right next to me (im on the aisle), and then he ran down, jumped over the rail and sorta creeped upto the ref, and just took him out at the back of the knees with a chop block.
Then a Rider player started punching him. The time keeper had to hold him down (well the guy actually just lied down on the ground after he did it, he wasnt even trying to get away) till security came.

The key thing is to make sure he gets a severely punished, but also that it is widely publicized.
Without everyone knowing what happened it doesn't do any good at preventing it from happening again.

Now that I don't live in Quesnel do I need to change my handle??

I remember the good old days when we would run on the field AFTER the game at old Empire Stadium, that was fun.
We would pat players on the back, get an autograph, play around on the astro turf.
What this idiot did is just plain stupid, he deserves to be punished pretty severely.

I'm glad to see this is being pursued. If he made contact with the referee, the likely charge will be assault. If not, I presume the Crown will have to settle for trespass. If you watch the pre-grame announcement telling fans not to enter the field, it specifically refers to such action as 'trespass' for this very reason.cromartie wrote:Jail time plus a heavy fine (in the $20k range) should be the minimum.
Realistically, though, this cretin is probably looking at a modest fine and possibly a period of probation during which he must keep away from BC Place and 'keep the peace and be of good behaviour'. But the stigma and inconvenience of being charged and having a criminal record is a pretty good deterrent in itself. (Of course, the Lions themselves cannot "fine" anybody - the decision will up to Crown counsel.)

Problem is, once they get a little beer into them, a lot of people don't bother thinking "deterrent", or much of anything else. Personally, I'd think the idea of a potential beatdown from a bunch of football goons would be a bigger deterrent from jumping out on the field.Whisperin' Jimmy wrote:But the stigma and inconvenience of being charged and having a criminal record is a pretty good deterrent in itself.
BTW, anyone know what was going on earlier in sec. 24? There was a break in play, then a big collective "WHOA" from the end-zone crowd... ton of security and cops came running and escorted three or four guys out. Looked like they almost had to pick a couple of them up and carry them out... one had a pretty badly ripped shirt. I got pics!
