Used to play a lot of board games when I was younger, and am sad to say, with the advent of computer and Palm Pilot games, I've gotten away from traditional games. There are a couple we still play:

Skip Bo (card game)
Euchre (SM, and everyone else I know play well-I don't  )
Cribbage
Trivial Pursuit

Gee, this thread looks familiar

Got Carcassonne for Xmas - great game and my latest addiction!
Played a bit of Spy Alley - good family game
Chess - but the wife won't play with me - time to teach Shaelyn
For some strange reason Candyland is a hit around this house.
Uno - I still say it's just Crazy Eights
Munchkin is always a hit.
Wife seems to really like Sharp Shooters.
Got a Pass the Pigs set for Xmas and it has been kinda fun the few times we have managed to play it.

I have Axis and Allies and Line in the Sand, but I hardly play them because a) the wife isn't really into wargames and b) it takes so darned long to set the board up.

Used to play alot of Talisman and have most of the expansions for the 2nd edition, but just don't seem to play it as often. It's just not as fun with only 2.

Pretty much if it isn't Monopoly or Pay Day I'm willing to join in.
Now that I don't live in Quesnel do I need to change my handle??

I'm not a big fan of board games. I get bored way too easily.
Though when I was younger, my sister and I would often play "Life" or "Clue"

My dad gave me Canadian Monopoly for Christmas, so I guess I'll have to suck it up and play it one of these days. I suppose it will be fun to see the differences from the old school version.

I used to play a lot of chess over the yrs, however, I am no longer able to play well. I have a computer chess game with supposedly 10 levels of play. 10 yrs ago, I could win at level 5 about 2 out of 5 times. Today, I cannot beat level 2, and level 1 is just for beginners, sigh.

Othello\reversi I like that I forgot to mention. same with backgammon.

That reminds me of one of my favourite toys as a child.

Wow, Robbie- that sure takes me back! I remember when I beat Simon, I thought it was going to do something spectacular, but it just flashed all the colours and waited for me to start all over. Now refresh my memory on Merlin...it's vaguely familiar-what was the object again?

Merlin was an electronic toy made by Parker Brothers in 1978. You can read more about the game at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlin_%28game%29

Merlin's simple array of buttons and lights supported play of six different games, some of which could be played against the computer or against another person. Here is the list of games that could be selected:

1. Tic Tac Toe
2. Music Machine
3. Echo, a game similar to Simon
4. Blackjack 13
5. Magic Square, a pattern game
6. Mindbender, a game similar to Mastermind

The Music Machine game functioned as a musical instrument; in this mode each key was assigned a musical note, and sequences of notes could be recorded and played back. This made Merlin one of the earliest sequencers as well as an early consumer-level electronic synthesizer.

You can get the Merlin manual here:

"Lights are part of the action, too!"
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
